Two (Count Them) Two Announcing Moves In One!
Wednesday, March 05, 2008
Chicago's announcing timeline is about the most disjointed as I've ever seen. There have been so many personalities with both the Cubs and White Sox that it's hard to which fans like who, but I think they could all agree on one name Chicagoans have always enjoyed. Steve Stone.
Well Stoney is back Chicago! And with his return he also breaks up a questionable announcing team. Steve Stone is now one of the voices for the Chicago White Sox....
As recently as Sunday, Stone planned to call just 13 Friday Sox home games, serve as a three-days-a-week baseball analyst for WSCR-AM 670 and perhaps continue his postseason work for TBS.The Farmer-Singelton team had been described in the past as disjointed, awkward, and occassionally annoying. Farmer seemed to not be able to stand the rookie broadcaster Singelton, which makes this next quote perfect...
Then Sox vice president Brooks Boyer called to ask if he wanted a roster spot on the Sox broadcast team. Within 36 hours, the one-year contract was done.
"It was one of the easiest negotiations I've ever encountered," Score program director Mitch Rosen said. "All parties wanted this to happen and there wasn't a lot of time."
Stone will make his Sox debut Friday and is slated to call 150 regular-season games.
He will team with Ed Farmer, who could not be reached for comment.
Stone, who it seemed would be associated forever with Cubs television, is switching to White Sox radio. He will replace Chris Singleton, who is set to join ESPN's "Baseball Tonight."Of course ESPN is hiring him! Unbelievable.
Holy Cow! Uneasy Singleton-Farmer 'marriage' annulled (Chicago Sports)

I guess anyone can be better than Orestes Destrade. I don't think Chris Singleton can, though. He's abysmal.

Stoney got a raw deal from the Tribune Co. for being a little too real. Glad to see him back on the air, even if it is for the South Siders. Nice perm-fro, BTW.
