Texas Radio Hosts Mock KC Royal Alex Gordon's Wife
Tuesday, April 29, 2008
I can never get enough stories about athletes going after members of the media. Clubhouse rants like Hal McCrae's and Bobby Bonilla's provide years and years of enjoyment. Well there's now news out of Kansas City that we might be able KC Third Baseman Alex Gordon to the list soon. From the KC Star via Ben Maller....
The seemingly harmless interview took a nasty turn when Jamie [Gordon's wife- Ed Note] was asked whether she knew who Yoko Ono was. When she said she did not, someone back in the booth or at the station hit a “drop” button that spewed the words “stupid b....” over the air. The same drop button was hit again moments later after Jamie answered another question. That's pretty weak on the part of Dallas sports-talk station KTCK to not apologize directly, but I guess if you're in the business of being a Sports shock jock, you probably don't apologize often. Also, Alex Gordon is 6'1"/220lbs.....I don't know if I would mess with him.
Then later in the interview, one of the show’s hosts made crude innuendos about Jamie and Ashley, urging his interviewer to “try and get them to kiss."
Royals upper management got wind of the interview and was furious, as was Gordon. Royals vice president of communications Mike Swanson demanded an apology from the station and the hosts.
“Having to play the interview for Alex was not an enviable task,” Swanson said. “Then one of the show’s hosts told me he wouldn’t apologize directly to Alex because that was my job as a liaison. That really got me upset.”

AA, there was no need to apologize. The guy doing the interview didn't say anything offensive. The "Stupid B." drop was not heard by the girls and was played by the guy back at the station. They also didn't target Alex's wife, they were walking around the ballpark and stopped and talked to some girls.
Ahhh...well that sheds some light on things. I would be more offended about the guy trying to get them curse than the dumb bitch comment though.
I actually know one of the midday guys at The Ticket(he started out here in my hometown, and is the B in the "BaD Radio Show"). It's a strange mix of personalities on that station....
And it happened back in Spring Training. Seems a long time to hold a grudge about a stupid radio interview. It wasn't the interviewer's fault either. I think it was Grubes that played the drop.
The Hardline isn't the same without Sweet Greggo.
Bruce, Bob is the best thing on that show.
Another note to this is that the radio guys did offer to apologize to Alex Gordon at spring training right after the incident, but Gordon refused to meet with them because he was "afraid he would kick their asses"
I'm confused, who is the Ashley mentioned in the quotes?
Ashley is Luke Hochevar's Wife
Living in Dallas and a Royals fan, the Ticket always does some kind of bit with the Royals and/or the fans. It was genius. They also had the "Overcusser" interview Mike Sweeney.
As a PR pro, what's amazing to me is that the MLB communications directors aren't preventing their players from being booked on KTCK. THAT would get this cleaned up right away!
Where's Greggo?
I once knew a girl that lived in Gordon Street...
