More Madden 2009 News, Hammond And Collinsworth Are The New Announcers

Friday, April 25, 2008

I was really banking on the MNF crew being the team to drive me crazy in the game but apparently it will be the NFL-Network team of Tom Hammond and Cris Collinsworth. It's an odd choice but here are the details....

Madden NFL 09 will also feature a network-inspired broadcast presentation. Players will benefit from the authentic football knowledge of an in-booth play-by-play and color commentary team featuring Cris Collinsworth and Tom Hammond. In addition, numerous graphical enhancements have been made, including realistic weather and grass, sleeker player models and exterior stadium views.
Well I guess that confirms who the new team for NFL-N announcing team is then doesn't it? It would be pretty awkward if they went a different direction. The game looks to have a bunch of new features, but it's just odd to me that the 20th edition of the game won't even have Madden as an announcer. Seems like a bad decision but we'll see.

This proves nothing about the NFL Network, which wasn't mentioned in the article. Hammond and Collinsworth have worked together as NBC's B team on Wild Card Saturday, and EA Sports may have decided to get away from matching the announcers to a real-life team entirely.

Sure it may make it more likely that NFLN decides to go with Hammond and Collinsworth, but even if so, what's the chicken and what's the egg here?

But that's only once a year versus 8 games on the NFL-N.

And Collinsworth is already the color commentator, and Hammond worked with Collinsworth when Bryant Fumble Gumbel was sick.

This is why I continue to play Madden 06 on my PC. The glorious dulcet tones of Madden and Michaels and the added bonus of EA Sports Radio with Tony Bruno! Good Times!

@ Kevin, you sure you meant to say dull?

Give me Summerall any day.

The Tony Bruno thing was bad, but nothing compares to that horrible EA Sports Radio pbp man for XBOX 360.

Morgan is all about trying to discredit everything on this site these days. Oh well....he has the right to say whatever he wants.

There is no way....no way....that EA would have chosen to guys at random to replace Madden and Michaels. If that was the case they should have just got a Howard Cosell impersonator to join, add Keith Jackson, and we're good.

I was disappointed they didn't use Caliendo.

Remind me again, why are Michaels and Madden not in the game?

I noticed in recent editions M&M only appeared in the PS2 versions of the game. If this trend continues, will Madden 09 for the PS2 still have the duo?

Hammond's a solid choice, but I would have gone with Marv Albert.

Madden could have Ward/Gottfried, and the millions of lemmings would still buy it.

My question: is Favre even going to be in the game?
