Reggie Miller Channels His Inner Emmitt

Monday, April 21, 2008

I don't know what it is about certain analysts that make them completely botch common phrases but Reggie Miller is definitely one of them. In this instance he's talking about how Lebron James is comparable to a fullback when he completely loses his grasp on the terminology.....

Since I came in right during the middle of the quote let's go to Brave Sir Robin for the full edition.....

“Lebron is like a full-back. With with a full steam of head you're not going to be able to grab him.”- Reggie Miller

Now that's just dirty. Add to that these following quotes and I think we've got ourselves a Reggie Miller open thread.....

“Gilbert he kinda likes this he wants the fans to be on him. I was that kind of player.”- RM
“I was going to point that out.”- MA

“Across the front head.” (As opposed to the other head on the back?)

“I think Caron Butler did a really good job giving the ball up way too early there.”

“You’ve got to keep the man on your back, go up, and reserve the rebound.”

"How does the Cleveland Cavaliers score?" (Do?)

"There's no asembalance of offense."

"Get into the lane. Wide open Ben Wallace finds an even wider open Wally Szczerbiak." (Via Anon)

And just like that it's 2-0......

I've been saying for the past 2 years that Reggie is the worst color man in all of sports (well, maybe with the exception of Joe Morgan).

I logged on to see if anyone mentioned the "Good job giving the ball up too early" comment.

And as I'm typing this he says "Get into the lane. Wide open Ben Wallace finds an even wider open Wally Szczerbiak."

I know, when LeBron gets a full head of steam, it's "full steam ahead!" (Sounds like #31 mixed these two phrases to form one Super-Phrase)

Did Reggie say "assemblance" or "ASS-em-BAL-ens"? Neither is right, of course, but one sounds a lot worse than the other.

They look so weak. And I love the Soulja Boy they play when Deshawn misses a free throw. Once again the Chuckster was right.

I don't know if anyone else heard this, but after Stevenson hit a 3 early in the fourth, Reggie threatened to leave the arena if he did the "can't feel my face."

Personally, I want Stevenson to do this more than anything else now just to see what Reggie does.

Aww man, Reg ain't so bad. He doesn't talk down to you like other dumb color commentators, he just doesn't get his words out right, all the time. Most of us would have the same issue.

Most of us don't get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to talk about basketball for 2.5 hours a night 1 night a week (for most of the season).

Reggie makes the comments that matter: tonight, it's not a rivalry until Washington wins a series. Miami-Lakers in regular season - what would Miami's record be if you flipped Kobe and Wade. He has some diction issues, but, the guy knows the game.

"Diction Issues"?!?! You have to be kidding me. The guy is fucking terrible.

Miller actually said the "full steam of head" thing twice. In other words, it wasn't just a speak-o, he actually thinks that's how you say it.

I forgive every Bush-ism Reggie has ever said because of his calling out the referees for calling a flagrant two on Brendan Haywood when the call probably would have been different if the victim had been anyone else in the league.

@ Jason: If that foul had bene on Dwyane Wade, the refs would have executed Haywood at center court.

Obviously though, that foul on non-star player would have only been a flagrant one, but I really do believe that if it had been Kobe, Wade, Paul, etc., it still would have been a flagrant two.

On that clip of DeShawn, AA:

1) That's the "I Can't Feel My Face" move he does
2) ...and he got it from Tony Yayo?

I guess an F-level player has to bite an F-level rapper.

I wonder how much $$$ the Reg makes?? Anyone? Sure, he knows the game..but, it's like he went to DeVry, U of Phoenix, or somthing. Sad the powers-that-be give guys like this a pass 'cause they played.

He's got Gus Johnson's enthusiasm and tons of knowledge. I really think he'll get better. Yeah, I'm probably out of my mind.

you forgot the greatness of "aversadility" from an unknown broadcast

How much liquor is MA putting away after each broadcast with Reg--he must be so beaten down

I think Emmitt who has 10 comments in an hour show, where he can think about what he wants to say (or probably rehearses) in a studio is a little different than Reggie reacting to every play in a frenzied atmosphere, caught up in emotions, and misspeaking 10 times when he makes a 100 comments.
