ESPN's First Take Firing On All Cylinders Today

Wednesday, December 19, 2007

I really have to be honest with everyone here. I don't think Cold Pizza, er First Take is all that bad of a show. It seems like they've toned Skip Bayless down some and Marcellus Wiley is actually a very good analyst that should get a lot more airtime.

With that said, this morning's episode is absolutely slaying me. If you haven't watched it yet, or for some odd reason TIVO'd the show you have to watch the whole thing. Here's what to watch for.....

- Dana Jacobsen trying to say "Romo made some game changing mistakes" and saying "Romo made some pretty gay.....game changing mistakes."
- Jay Crawford coming back from break calling himself Dana Jacobsen.
- Dana Jacobsen laughing uncontrollably immediately afterwards.
- Skip Bayless saying that Baseball fans vote better than Football fans for the ASG/Pro Bowl because they look at the big picture when selecting "hitters and pitchers" (Fans don't vote for Pitchers)
- Marcellus Wiley talking about the bill you rack up going to the Pro Bowl when taking "family members out of the Country for the first time."

.....and my personal favorite. Sage Steele saying Sean Taylor's posthumous vote into the Pro Bowl was humorous......

That was an unfortunate choice of words there.

Marcellus Wiley: Further proof that all you need to do is play football in New York City (Columbia University), and somebody will give you a TV job.

Marcellus Wiley afer the Taylor shooting was been pretty outspoken about how players need to protect themselves and not be so extravagant and out there flashing their possessions. This was the same guy who appeared on MTV Cribs. I guess you can have it both ways.

Did Dana's bridle fall out of her mouth when she was laughing?

More slips of the tongue: Jessica Simpson saying she's "anxious to see her guy lead the team to the 50th Super Bowl Championship."

With all due respect to Mr. Wiley, Woody Paige and Skip Bayless one on one is a tough act to follow. Woodrow was the perfect foil for Skip Bayless, constantly pushing his buttons, definitely made for great TV when those two "battled".

let's see the one of Jay calling himself Dana!
teleprompter boy was probably worried about his hair spike so he looks younger.

you missed yesterday during the archie manning segment when Dana asked Archie "When did Eli and Peyton stop believing in Santa Claus?"... Then Archie says "My grand kids watch this..." Then Dana stumbled through to try and save herself. Highest of comedy.

This is the worst show ever (yes, worse than Duel).

As horrific as the show is, it was best in its initial "Cold Pizza" days when it was LESS about sports and Erin, Kit and Jay weren't trying to be sports geeks...just people hosting a hybrid sports-live variety show. It was still awful, but it was amusingly awful because you came to it with no expectations and - once in a great while - something was said or shown you actually got a kick out of. (the comment about Dana's bridle falling out was unfortunate and hilarious)
