The Patriots Still Aren't In Mercury Morris' Imaginary Neighborhood

Monday, December 31, 2007

I have no idea why First Take (and myself for that matter) keeps giving this guy airtime, but here's our friend Mercury Morris giving Michelle Bonner a hard time on ESPN this morning. Not only does he say that the Patriots haven't accomplished anything yet he also flips out on the Parcells piece ESPN did.....

What a dick.

Automaticness? Sounds like someone stirred some rum in his oatmeal this morning.

I'm convinced that the more people here this asshat talk, the more people will root for the Pats to win the Super Bowl this year.

I know I'm on the bandwagon, that's for sure.

The nonsensical ramblings of Ned the Wino and his champagne-popping cronies are the only reason why I'm rooting for the Pats.

I remember when Mercury Morris visited my grade school many years ago, doing an anti-drug speech as part of his probation. After the whole Michael "Pipemaker" Irvin experiment, I'm amazed that ESPN would put another cokehead on the air.

Does anyone else realize that he switches from undefeated to unbeaten half way through? He starts off saying the Patriots are merely unbeaten, not undefeated, then he switches to saying that the Dolphins were unbeaten.

Also, as they mentioned on fanhouse, there's no way in hell a team from the 70s beats a current team. The players were smaller and slower. The only guy from pre80s that could play in the current era would probably have been Jim Brown. (Maybe a couple others.)

its time for this Linkhead mercury Morris to shut up and go away. Why is everyone givning this guy this much airtime? He is nothing more than an old bag.

So if the Pats win it all, they will have 'not lost' 19 games instead of 17: Mercury is saying the Patriots feat would be more impressive.

I take it Mercury wasn't a big fan of Who's Now and Lee and Kirk's playoff.

They put him on the air because he voluntarily embarrasses himself. I don't know why he thinks that America would take a coke dealer seriously though.

I thought his whole argument was that the Patriot's weren't more impressive

Although can't we all agree that he is right about ESPN sucking for just randomly comparing teams from different eras? It's too bad that the only guy who will go on air and tear into tWWL is a giant asshat.

I agree with you matt. Mercury Morris is right about that. There is no fair way to compare teams from this present day in any sport to teams of the past. They played in different eras under different rules. Everything is different. You truly cannot get a fair comparison, and anyone trying to compare teams like them is being stupid. It's good fodder to compare these teams at the bar or the watercooler, but it's nonsensical to broadcast such a comparison to everyone on the planet.

By the way, everyone with half a brain knows the 2007 Patriots would kick the living daylights out of the 1972 Dolphins. And, I'm a Bears fan (just to show I'm being subjective about this).

I did just notice that brave sir ryan, he says the first thing about unbeaten/undefeated around 50 seconds in and switches it 2 minutes and 20 seconds in.

Dude is retarded.

Remember when you were younger and you went to your local high school games and the one guy was around from the team that went to the state championship back in 19xx and you thought he was cool?

And remember how you grew up and realized there were other people on that team and they weren't hanging around the high school because they didn't hang off that one accomplishment and did something else with their lives?

Yeah... if the Patriots run the table, Mercury Morris is going to be reduced to "that guy from the '72 Dolphins who went to prison", so he's going on ESPN and doing stuff like this. He's just making himself look dumber for doing it.
