HBO Cancels Inside The NFL

Wednesday, February 06, 2008

It's a sad day when a program that you watched as a kid and one that's been on the air for over 30 years is canceled. According HBO via SbB this past season of Inside the NFL was it's last....

Home Box Office is passing on its long-running series Inside The NFL after 31 years.

Tonight’s episode will be the last for the series, which since 1977 has recapped the prior week’s National Football League games via highlights and analysis from hosts Bob Costas and former NFL players Dan Marino, Cris Carter and Cris Collinsworth. That show, which will recap the New York Giants Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots, will feature a short retrospective of the series’ history, according to HBO executives.

“Inside the NFL has been a hallmark program for three decades on HBO,” HBO Sports President Ross Greenburg said in a statement. “It has been a terrific franchise … but the television landscape has changed quite a bit over the last 30 years and we have to recognize the realities of the business. I’m not sure we had more than one competitor when the show launched.”
I don't know many people who didn't watch the show, but apparently that wasn't enough for one of the best places to catch NFL Film style highlights every week. I will miss you Inside the NFL, and I will miss these outbursts Dan....

Horrible news. Without a doubt, the best highlight show each week.

I've never seen the show, or this clip before. Can't afford the finer things in life like HBO.

What was Dan so pissed about?

I'm sure we'll all get to watch its reincarnation, on the NFL Network. Oh wait...

I'm guessing that the number one reason behind this is Cris Carter being an idiot.

i'll bet $5 the show abruptly ends and we never find out if brady completes that 4th down pass.

First they stopped showing highlights of every game and then they cancel the show all together? Bummer for football fans. Is HBO too cheap to pay up?

Never saw it, not one second of it.

Me neither - not everyone gets HBO.

Why do I fear that a "resurrection" might be on ESPN and feature Chris Berman, Steve Young, Emmitt Smith, and Cris Carter?

This is terrible news. HBO doesn't even show good movies anymore so the only reason I still pay for it is for the sports. Inside the NFL was easily its best show. This sucks.

The show wasn't in hd, even on the hd channels. I didn't watch it because the highlights are so much better in hd.

I've been watching since 1978! It used to be the only place for highlights of all the games, besides Monday Night football hilites, now both are gone, but alas, we don't need them anymore. I will miss Inside the NFL nonetheless.

That looked like how Boomer will react the next time Dan leaves his phone on on the set.

Like j.j. said, I bet you dollars to donuts that this comes back on NFL-N. It's too established to just be wiped away.

Marino's mad because to his left is Len Dawson who actually won a Super Bowl.

People, if you liked the show as much as I did, then bombard HBO with emails protesting this decision. If fan support was able to keep a show like Jericho on the air, we can surely do the same for ItNFL

I cannot believe that HBO would cancel the best show ever created. Is there anything the viewers can do? If there is, please let all of us know.

I just started a campaign on The Point to bring back Inside the NFL https://www.thepoint.com/campaigns/bring-back-inside-the-nfl.

There are 2 million of us who watched Inside the NFL weekly - let's speak as a group and get the show reinstated.
