Sports Center By The Numbers
Wednesday, February 13, 2008
Okay, I've done enough negative articles about ESPN today that they deserve a good one. A month or so ago I wrote a piece on a press release regarding the impact of the games that ESPN televises (which I conveniently can't find in a search). Well now the network has come out with a similar release in regards to Sports Center and the numbers are amazing to tell you the truth.
SportsCenter by the NumbersThe makeup talk aside this release is pretty interesting. The sheer amount of individuals going into the program is crazy and the reach of the program can't be approached by any other Sports program on television. Good stuff.

23 - sexual harrassment suits from the NFL Live set
And I'll go with this:
365--Number of days last year that ESPN ran a story about the New York Yankees in the first five minutes of Sportscenter.
365 1/4-Number of days SC has a corny segment per year.
14--Average I.Q. of ESPN's target SportsCenter audience
1--Number of undisputed national championships SportsCenter-declared "dynasty" USC has during the ENTIRE so-called "ESPN Era"
15,004--Number of F-bombs dropped by Chris Berman at production assistants since 1981.
Ha okay...so I didn't see that coming, but great work everyone.
2341--number times Stuart Scott has attempted and failed to connect with SportsCenter's minority audience.
1--Time that Harold Reynolds stared at a low cut blouse Cindy Brunson was wearing so long, he forgot the question she asked.
(Damn, I wish I had the video. It had to have been 2002. Ampex2000?)
582--number of times Chris Mortensen's "sources" have been wrong
94--number of legitimate news stories that ESPN ignored today because of obnoxious wall-to-wall Roger Clemens coverage
I'll go ahead and be the first to post this response:
0 - number of times i've watched SC in the past 5+ (maybe longer) years
