Matchups For 10th ACC/Big Ten Challenge Released

Tuesday, April 15, 2008

There's nothing like Football news five months away and now College Basketball news almost seven months out. ESPN has released the wonderful lineup of ACC/Big Ten contests coming to you in December 2008!

For the fourth consecutive year, the event will feature 11 games and include two telecasts on ESPNU, the 24-hour college sports network. ESPN and ESPN2 will combine to televise the remaining nine games. The event will be played on the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday after Thanksgiving (December 1-3).

2008 ACC/Big Ten Challenge Schedule

Monday, Dec. 1

Wisconsin at Virginia Tech

Tuesday, Dec. 2

Duke at Purdue
Clemson at Illinois
Ohio State at Miami
Virginia at Minnesota
Iowa at Boston College

Wednesday, Dec. 3

North Carolina vs. Michigan State (from Ford Field)
Indiana at Wake Forest
Michigan at Maryland
Florida State at Northwestern
Penn State at Georgia Tech
I could care less about most of these games to be honest, but I'm extremely excited that Maryland doesn't have to play Illinois for what seems like the 5th year in a row.

You should be happy, AA. Maryland has a guaranteed victory.

Aside: How many dress rehearsals does Ford Field need before next year's Final Four?

I thought they were supposed to match the teams up based on finish in the league. This schedule just seems random.

I don't know if the teams are supposed to be "seeded" by place of finish (it did appear that way in previous years), but I do know that NC State's 12th place finish in the ACC resulted in their exclusion (due to the uneven numbers in the conference). Way to mess it up, Wolfpack!!

(can you tell I'm a frustrated NC State fan?)

Duke/Purdue and MSU/UNC should both be fantastic.

@joe d:

I happen to be a frustrated Michigan fan. They're 2-3 shooters (similar to what Purdue recruited this year) away from truly making noise.

Ooh, MSU/UNC at Ford ought to be good. Don't know if they'll match the ludicrous attendance total (78,000 or so - still a world record for basketball) from the MSU/Kentucky game in '03, but I like.

joe d, whatever you're smoking, I suggest you cut the dose back. Michigan won't be as craptacular as they were this year, but that's not exactly a difficult achievement. They *might* be back to their accustomed Amaker-level mediocrity. Even Beilein needs some talent to work with.
