What Have You Done For Me Lately?

The midday host on WEEI today, Bobby something, raised a question today, you know, just for the sake of conversation:

When is it okay to boo David Ortiz?

One caller said that he and a few of his friends had paid $85 for tickets to the game today and had already figured out some stuff to yell in Ortiz's direction. Another said that the mere thought of booing Big Papi at this point in the season was "classless". Others pointed to his weight as a reason why he should not be given a free pass if his struggles continue.

Here's my answer to the same question: never. Red Sox fans should never boo David Ortiz, especially after just 11 (admittedly mediocre) games, and if I need to run down the reasons why, you're not much of a Red Sox fan at all.
Thoughts?

I'm a lifelong Red Sox fan.

Ortiz gets a lifetime free pass. Period. Any so-called Sox fan that *ever* boos David Ortiz is a friggin' idiot.

this subject was brought up a couple of years ago with the yankee fans and jeter when he got off to a slow start.

ortiz helped bring the puds and their pud fans two rings. i hate the puds but i'll agree with frank: never

I;d rather have Papi suckin' in April and dominating in October instead of the other way around (A-Rod!) [looking up at the ceiling whistling....]

There is always a loser, or ten, in every crowd. Like that Father-Son combo that attacked the basecoach a few years back.
Ortiz should never get booed(same for Jeter pronounced Jahh-teaR.)Clutch player that, obviously, gives his all. Plus, factor in how the Sox acquired him..ie..for peanuts.

As long as I and the rest of the boo birds in yankee stadium boo the hell out of Ortiz, red sox fans should never do the same. We boo from the combination of hatred for coming through in the clutch and, to be honest, fear. If sox fans start to boo him for sucking, we're gonna cheer him for the same reason, and as much as the guy pisses me off, someone that good doesn't deserve that

WEEI and most of it's listeners need to be sent away to antartica to never be heard from again. Now I'm sure there is a good host or two, but it is a prime example of why people hate Boston sports fans.

There are a few things in life you dont do.

One of them is booing Ortiz at fenway. Simply unacceptble if something like that took place.

Awful Announcing - from "Gus Johnson can have my babies" to "Red Sox + 29 other baseball teams" in weeks!

F WEEI and their desperate attempt for ratings. Anybody that is willing to even try and rationalize booing Ortiz needs to hand in their pink hat. The man could hit .200 this year and would still be a walking god to any sox fan.
