New Era Tabs Spike Lee For Commercial

Monday, March 12, 2007

So here's the premise. Major League stars are camping out of a New Era store in New York, so they can be the first to have a "New Release" hat from the company. Kind of a funny idea. Don't know anyone who would wait in line for a hat, but people do it for shoes, so who knows?

The result: New Era is going to be in the red on this one. They had to pay Spike Lee to create the thing and then pay the following major leaguers: Justin Morneau, Johan Santana, Jose Reyes, Justin Verlander, David Eckstein, Robinson Cano, and Jon Paplebon.

Funny? Maybe. The fact that Jose Reyes and Johan are grilling out is kinda humorous, but the Morneau part comes up short. I'll let you judge.....

WOW. Baseballers REALLY can't act.

You have to ask yourself: was this ad worth making?

Shocker.
