Pairings For the Sweet Sixteen and Elite 8 Games

Monday, March 19, 2007

So if you haven't heard.....Gus Johnson is done for the tourney. Sad day for us "true" fans of the sport. I really can't understand why he continues to be buried by CBS. Whether it's Basketball, Football, or hell....even Canadian Football games on ESPN 2.....Gus has always been considered JV.

According to his CBS Bio....he's been doing College Basketball on CBS for 11 Years. 11 Years People! And he's just now becoming a household name? 99.9% of the people that emailed/commented over the past weekend sent nothing but praise for Gus Johnson. We're the fans here......shouldn't WE know who we like more than anyone else? It just blows my mind.

Nothing against James Brown and Lenny Elmore, but I like my March Madness with a little.....I dunno??? Madness maybe? Old stories about playing against the Princeton offense are tolerable for about a quarter, but I don't need 20+ flashbacks in a game.

For once I wish CBS would listen to the people who actually watch the games, and not just go with the "Good Ole Boy" system.

Gus Johnson's call from the Ohio State-Xavier Game. This should be evidence enough....HA-HA!

Anyway, here are your pairings. Lottery winners.....Fans of Memphis, Texas A&M, Ohio State, and Tennessee....

Thursday:

San Jose- 7:10 Tip- Kansas/Southern Illinois- Dick Enberg/Jay Bilas
San Antonio- 7:27 Tip- Memphis/Texas A&M- Verne Lundquist/Bill Raftery
San Jose- 9:30 Tip- UCLA/Pittsburgh- Dick Enberg/Jay Bilas
San Antonio- 9:45 Tip- Ohio State/Tennessee- Verne Lundquist/Bill Raftery

Friday:

East Rutherford- 7:27 Tip- Georgetown/Vanderbilt- Jim Nantz/Billy Packer
St. Louis- 9:30 Tip- UNLV/Oregon- James Brown/Len Elmore

Gus Johnson Was The Star.... (Mister Irrelevant)
A Plea to CBS (Complete Sports)

There's a bit of an AA announcement in that Mister Irrelevant article......who can find it?

11 Comments:

I want Gus Johnson teamed up with Billy Packer, if only because one of them will go all Joey Porter on the other by the second half.

It's a fucking disgrace. He is absolutely perfect for this tournament.

James Brown? The douchebag who made that decision should be forced to watch Herm Edwards press conferences on a continuous reel for 48 hours straight.

Gus Johnson is the WORST--Doesn't question if the Oden's foul was intentional, doesn't even bring up that Xavier should foul before the 3-point shot attempt. He's just a screamer like Dickie V with lots of sound and fury and signifying nothing. He belongs at the high school level.

"Bautista with the CAAAAAATCH!!!" That's the most egregious call ever, and I can't stop laughing when I hear it.

He's certainly over the top, which is why he's perfect for this tournament

Nantz has a sigh of relief, he doen't have to do a game involving a Washington state school(UW, Gonzaga, WSU). JB has to find another adjective other than nice. nice pass, nice play, nice fart.

QUIT IT.

Notice, of course, that only one ACC team is left, and that's where they sent Nantz/Packer.

I wonder if Packer will stop blowing Roy Williams long enough to provide analysis.

AA is losing credibility with it's man-love for awful announcer Gus Johnson and its rant against the always-solid Dick Enberg.

I'm under 35 and I've always despised Johnson as one of the worst announcers in sports.

And being under 35 doesn't mean being ignorant. Surely you must realize the significance of Enberg doing the UCLA game. But then, under your reasoning, being under 35 means you don’t know who John Wooden is.

Also readying myself for Packer doing the USC-Carolina game and two hours of why any team from the East or South is so superior than any team West of the Mississippi.

I'm losing credibility now? Oh no what should I do?!?!

How is it that over 90% of people that read this site and comment around the internet enjoy Gus Johnson? Dick Enberg is never "solid"...he always makes multiple mistakes per game. While he has a great voice and history within the game that can only take you so far.

35 years old is an arbitrary number that I consider where the generation gap is....it might be more towards 40.

And lastly, what does John Wooden have to do with anything?
