ESPN Airs Miles Press Conference But Edits Out One Important Part
Saturday, December 01, 2007
Someone mentioned this in the comments of the previous post, but it's true. ESPN showed a clip near the end of the MAC Championship game which started with Miles saying that he was the head coach of LSU. Here's the video...
Thanks Stan, but where was the very beginning when Les Miles mentioned ESPN? Via MGO Blog...
Miles: "There was misinformation on ESPN and I think it's imperative that I straighten it out. I'm the head coach at LSU, I will be the head coach at LSU, I have no interest in talking to anyone else. I have a championship game to play and I'm excited about the opportunity of my damn strong football team to play in it. And that's really all I'd like to say. It's unfortunate I had to address my team with this information this morning. With that being done, I think we'll be ready to play. There will be no questions for me; I represent me in this issue, please ask me after. I'm busy. Thank you very much, and have a great day."
Hmmm, where was that beginning sentence in the clip Stan just showed us??? That's odd. I don't think Herbstreit is 100% wrong because Miles didn't entirely close the door, but this is sketchy reporting at best. Herbstreit is either completely off base or ESPN is throwing him under the bus on this one.
ABC also is airing this edited version as well, and I just found the full version. Anyone want to guess where? Surprisingly on ESPN.com. I wonder if they change this one soon as well.
(Thanks to Joe D. for sending the MGO article along)
Update: Tracy Wolfson of CBS just had an exclusive with Miles and he said he's definitely coming back to LSU next year. Thanks for actually going to the person himself and reporting on it CBS. It's a strange process I know, but occasionally it works.

Hey, I mentioned this in the comments earlier and mentioned it was on MGOBLOG. What's up?
The vid at MGO Blog wasn't working Joe D. Said it was removed. Thanks for sending the link though.
Either Herbstreit was wrong or Les Miles is about to make Saban proud.
During a break in the UCF-Tulsa game in the 4th Quarter, they showed the unedited press conference, too.
Don't get used to seeing it anymore.
As an LSU guy, don't EVER compare Les Miles to Nick Saban.
Les Miles never led on to anyone that he wasn't interested in the Michigan job. LSU fans understand this and understood that it was okay if he left. Michigan was the ONLY school Miles would have left to.
Nick Saban is a piece of shit mercenary motherfucker who would leave anybody for anything, anytime, anywhere. And he lies about it. He did it at LSU. He did it with the Dolphins.
Apparently the LSU AD and Les Miles have a verbal agreement on the table for an extension. He's yet to sign the deal. Now, if he goes back on this and goes to Michigan after doing this whole yelling at ESPN thing, then you can make the comparison to Saban.
ESPNNEWS showed the unedited version all day and commented on it-even referencing the Herbstreit report.
GUARANTEE he goes to Michigan!
He just did this so his kids would at least try in SEC Championship.
He'll flop back to Michigan before Monday. Expect a Tuesday announcement in Ann Arbor.
CBS has been playing the full statement.. even the lame "have a great day" gesture
Herbie is standing by his statement. He said his source is 100%. Even some posters on mgoblog said it was true but carr fucked up. Drew sharpe is saying it to
Yeah, because we (in SE Michigan) all know that Drew Sharp is the paragon of unbiased reporting and accuracy.
Can't wait untill Mike DeBord is the new Michigan coach.
No kidding:
Drew Sharp = ultimate douchebag
abc showed the full clip during halftime of the ou-mizzou game... on which Herbstreit is in fact the commentator
I still say don't count Miles going to Michigan out. He said "next year", not next season. The Sugar Bowl is played in early January. There's the loophole.
At 11:28 on Sportscenter, Scott Van Pelt is going over the details about why Miles gave the press conference. They showed the unedited version of the press conference.
On the ESPN2 College Basketball Halftime Report, they played the clip saying that ESPN had misinformation...lots more on it than during the college football coverage...you think they may have edited it to not take away too much time from the games they were airing?
