Is Kirk Herbstreit Trying To Become College's Chris Mortensen?

Saturday, December 01, 2007

This morning Kirk Herbstreit dropped a bomb on the College Football world by breaking the news that Les Miles was heading to Michigan. ESPN immediately put the video up on ESPN.com following the Herbsteit's scoop.

Well now they're saying that he's staying at LSU. The Leader can't make up their mind about this, so much so that they have both posted as items on the main page of ESPN.com (click for larger)......

Can we get a confirmation one way or another please? CBS is reporting that he's staying and they've said that all morning on their Pregame and Halftime shows, so I think I'm going to believe them.

Why would he announce today that he's leaving? Makes no sense whatsoever.

(Thanks to Andrew for sending the screen shot)

Herbie jumped the gun because he was just thinking of watching OSU destroy Michigan for several more years thanks to Miles' occasional brain cramps calling plays (the hat is on too damn tight.)

They had originally said Miles would have a press conference at 1:45 to announce he's staying. That press conference never happened and the AD says Miles has agreed to an extension but it hasn't been signed yet. Sounds fishy to me.

It is fishy....the press conference just happened and I'll add the video shortly. Miles is pissed.

Yeah way to totally botch this story ESPN. Could they have screwed this up any worse?? How many different conflicting reports are you going to have? Get it right, and stop contradicting yourself. Oh, and I love the way they spin it to have it never seem like they were wrong. What a joke.

Yeah, make sure to put in the whole press conference, including the part where Miles brings up ESPN. It was conveniently left out of the clip tWWL showed. mgoblog.blogspot.com has the full transcript.

Dark Helmet: What the hell am I looking at? When does this happen in the movie?
Colonel Sandurz: Now. You're looking at now sir. Everything that happens now, is happening now.
Dark Helmet: What happened to then?
Colonel Sandurz: We passed then.
Dark Helmet: When?
Colonel Sandurz: Just now. We're at now, now.
Dark Helmet: Go back to then!
Colonel Sandurz: When?
Dark Helmet: Now.
Colonel Sandurz: Now?
Dark Helmet: Now!
Colonel Sandurz: I can't.
Dark Helmet: Why?
Colonel Sandurz: We missed it.
Dark Helmet: When?
Colonel Sandurz: Just now.
Dark Helmet: When will then be now?
Colonel Sandurz: Soon.

from that michigan blog
"but Miles 1) didn't say he had turned the job down, 2) didn't say anything about next year and 3) hasn't signed this extension. "

its attitudes like that which feed espn being able to just randomly guess at this kind of shit. to me what miles said says he isnt going anywhere, but noooo it means hes leaving

Watch the Les Miles video in the sidebar on ESPN. He's pretty pissed about the whole situation (and should be).

Did you catch CBS during half time pretty much lambasting ESPN and Herbstreit in particular? I wish I had some video or something to help you out. It was very condescending and pretty funny.

Oh, yeah Louisiana, what high quality life people are living there. Ann Arbor is a sweet city, and there are a lot more nice surrounding cities than at LSU. So shut your mouth steven.

Dari Noqua, or whatever his name is, just said on ESPN News that a report about Les Miles staying at LSU came in from the A & P. The A & P??? I was hoping the report was from Food Lion.

Cbs is stupid. They blamed michigan for lsu to losing to arkansas. No bias?

Have you ever been to LSU Steven?

The funny thing about this is that I don't know if this is a good or bad thing for LSU. Les Miles is basically the Lloyd Carr of the south.

Herbie got played and ESPN is a joke! Gotta expect that from an OSU grad though.

Love how CBS blamed Michigan for all the distractions, from the timing of Carr's retirement to the AD saying he was asking permission to talk to Miles. You know, LSU could have told Michigan to shove it until after this week. (And this is coming from a Michigan hater)

Maybe he took the UM job contingent on it being held under hat until the SEC title game was over and someone at or associated with UM leaked it to ESPN and it pissed him off enough to tell them to take a leap.

Yes its all Michigan's fault. Les Miles shouldn't take any blame for waiting until today to voice his commitment to LSU.

AT least there was talk... at Auburn, we let our Coaches loses 4 games a year and then give them a Raise.
