$17 Million Could Buy A Lot Of Things, But For Rick Reilly It's A Live Karaoke Band

Tuesday, February 12, 2008

I really have no idea what I would do with one million bucks let alone seventeen, but I think hiring a live karaoke band for my birthday would be at the bottom of the list. It's not low at all for ESPN's Rick Reilly apparently....

Who knew the life of Reilly included a live karaoke band at his 50th birthday party?

Rick Reilly, the Denver-based ESPN columnist, threw a rollicking 5-0 party Friday night at Lannie's Clocktower Cabaret on the 16th Street Mall. Too bad the otherwise pleasant party included singing from folks who should not quit their day jobs.

But Reilly may have topped Schmidt in the ear-splitting category with his rendition of Me and Bobby McGee. "This is a little something I wrote with Kris Kristofferson," he joked.

"He sounds like he's losing his voice," one woman said. "That would be a good thing," her friend offered.
Actually I take that back. While hiring a live karaoke band isn't the best of ideas it's probably better than my initial thought. Buying the materials to turn my apartment into one giant moon bounce (you're just mad you didn't think of it first).

P.S.- When did Reilly start dressing like Oddjob?

I'm more amused that John Elway is dating a former Raiderette.
