How Japanese Taiwanese Players Solve Disputes With Umpires
Tuesday, April 08, 2008
I hadn't seen this April 4 clip anywhere so I thought I would share. If you've seen it elsewhere please accept my apologies. You know the drill.....Wait for it.....Waaaaaait for it......
So awesome on so many levels. First, he jumped and hit him with a flying elbow. Awesome. Second, the bullpen catcher was the one trying to stop him. Awesome. Third, he was out. Awesomest (yes I know that's not a word)! Milton Bradley would be proud my Taiwan brother.

Good thing someone else noticed. My Mandarin's pretty good, but a little rusty for TV listening. I'm pretty sure, though, that the commentator said "this is a very serious, but understandable, penalty." (Anon 5:20p likely can provide a better translation.) -K.
Think that's good? Check this one out:

What's great is the guy who attacked with the flying elbow wasn't even the runner who got called out.
He was safe.
Whoa...George Brett flash back!
What a cultural difference...In America, the player would have engaged in continuous verbal warfare with the umpire while actually being restrained by his teammates...After leveling his nemesis, this player calmly chews his gum as he is led off the field...
True, the guy did something colossally stupid likely to cost him more than a couple paychecks...But where was his manager? Instead of jumping to his player's defense and taking up the cause, he quietly watches then discusses lineup changes with the other umpires...
The hockey move was sweet, but it's the other two minutes that have me thinking WTF...
1: That's two minutes for charging. He left his feet to hit the ump.
2: I always wondered what happened to those old polyester nightmares the Pirates wore in '79.
Actually the translation was
"My Gawd that is Hee Shop Chang's music! Get that ump out of here before his ass is kicked all over the ring!"
Awesomest-er, the he/she restrainer trainer nerd.
Announcers make more sense than Tony K.
I think if players were allowed to bust an ump occasionally the calls would be a lot better. You'd fear screwing up knowing someone might charge you and lay your ass out.
Looking at the replay, it looks like the guy that was called out was #6. The guy that attacked the ump was #31. This guy must REALLY care about his teammates feelings...
How about the co-ed cartoon people in the graphics?
Is that Spock looming over the errors column?
Actually, the clip's from the CPBL in Taiwan.
Game's between La New Bears and Brothers Elephants.
