Floyd Mayweather Hammers HBO's Boxing Announcers

Monday, July 07, 2008

Floyd Mayweather decided to take time out of his busy WWE schedule to lay into HBO's coverage of him over the weekend. The recently retired fighter had some choice words for the cable channel's analysts and more specifically Jim Lampley....

Mayweather criticized the network's announcers for a bias against black fighters, and for not treating their own indiscretions as seriously as those committed by people they cover, during an exclusive interview with The Press.

"Jim Lampley, Larry Merchant, Emanuel Steward, they're always talking about the negative things in my life," Mayweather said. "But I've seen Jim Lampley in the same strip club as me before. They always want to talk about me going to strip clubs, but they don't want to talk about that.

Mayweather, the Grand Rapids native who returned home this weekend to host a holiday carnival and entertainment festival, was convicted on four counts of misdemeanor assault, and pleaded no contest to another, earlier in his career.

"He caught a court case himself, too. But when they catch a case, all they do is take them off the air a couple weeks, then it's over."
Lampley is currently on probation for violating a restraining order leveed on him by his former girlfriend and according to Mayweather, routinely brings up his outside the ring issues. It's always a tough spot for announcers who have had trouble with the law themselves to speak on the subject and in most cases they should probably just leave that talk to the analysts.

Exactly what would be going on during a telecast that would warrant Lampley talk about himself going into a strip club? Mayweather is a loser, it has no bearing on his skin color.

Whenever I saw Mayweather on HBO Boxing, he was always sort of a stuck up dick to Merchant...

Racist? Aren't almost all of the goddamn boxers on that show black? Roy Jones, Foreman? Aren't they black?

Kelly Pavlik is a great story, so is Mickey Ward, maybe because those guys are white, they shouldn't be on HBO Boxing.

What a douchebag.

I'm pretty sure, the people leaving the negative comments about Mayweather are white. It doesn't matter what I say, your "logic" will not work in this case. Mayweather has some validity to what he's saying. The only thing you are really doing when you make statements that are onsided is perpetuate the sterotype that people of color feel about white. If its true, that cool...I just want to call a spade a spade.

There is no doubt that that sob Larry Merchant is a racist, but not against blacks. Merchant, with his Bazooka-bubble-gum-wrapper poetry is an idiot and a source of air pollution (CO2 gas) when he speaks. Roy Jones Jr. exposed Merchant for the opinionated, no-nothing about boxing, fraud of a commentator he really is. And that Emanuel Stewart, what an uncle Tom he is. Phoney baloney. Roy spoke the truth and he was fired. I am sure if you do an investigation, you will find out it was Merchant that got him fired. I can't wait for that old piece of trash to retire. It was refreshing not to her his methodical monotonous crap spew forth from his mouth in the Kirkland - Julio fight. I am not feeling that Lampley is prejudice. He is pretty good. He embellishes because it is his job to add drama to the event but he is NOT racist. Remember the movie "Liar Liar", with Jim Carry? There is one scene where he picks
up the phone and yells to a client: "STOP BREAKING THE LAW A HOLE!" I think if Mayweather would heed that advice, all the "racist' talk (distraction from the truth) would disappear.

Larry Merchant's not racist, no way, no how. And ... I believe Roy Jones was fired because he didn't show up for any meetings. -- Not that it matters but I'm white. I think Mayweather is great. He just takes things personal when people talk about his personal sht. Man has mad skills.

Some of you all have anger that needs taming. ------ CHOICE!!
