NBC Uses Cheap Harry Caray Impersonator For Winter Classic Spot
Tuesday, December 02, 2008
That title is coming across a little harsher than I wanted it to, but it's up there so we're going with it. NBC released their commercial promoting the Winter Classic (you know the outdoor Hockey game on New Years Day), and not only is there a cheap Harry Caray knock off, but a voice-over cameo from Bob Costas! Here's the commercial from Fanhouse via Scarlett Ice....
Again, the title was a little bit much because I did actually enjoy it, and the game itself is awesome. Hopefully it will be snowing again this year, because last year's action in the flakes was just too much fun.
Update: Okay so forget everything I said about that person imitating Harry Caray. Apparently Caray doesn't do that good of an impression of himself. Oh and....my bad....

I'm inclined to think it's an actual recording. Not like there isn't a couple copies of Caray doing the song lying around. With that said, the NHL is, by far, throwing out the best commercials of all the leagues. That commercial will appeal to the league's fan base as well as the casual sports fan, by tying the magic and history of the stadium with the wintry setting of a hockey game. Between this ad and last year's Stanley Cup photo montage ad, it really shouldn't be a surprise how the NHL is on the rise while other leagues are starting to level off or drop.
It's the real Harry Caray, the audio is just a much older version and it's an older Wrigley organ. As a lifelong Cubs fan, I would've preferred a more current version of the song with Haray Caray, but the ad is still very cool.
NHL is on the rise, all right. But from where it is, it is mathematically impossible to do anything BUT rise.
yeah, that would be a slightly younger and much more sober Harry Caray.
what the heck is the NHL?

Once the NHL gets off of Versus and back to ESPN (or any other network with some actual credibility), they'll be back for real.
Bring back "Roundball Rock".
Kinda sounded either a sped-up version (slightly), or one that was edited to make it sound as if it was in a higher pitch (like what some radio stations with Top 40 formats do with songs)...
You know, that could have been the real Harry Caray on a audio...
