This Guy Is Great

Know how I know he's a real fan? Because he's wearing a Fenway Park T-shirt with Red Sox and Yankees logos on it (I think I bought that for my dad last year). He CARES about this rivalry, and will not rest until the Evil Empire has been vanquished. Hardcore.

This video was delivered from heaven on June 14, when the Boston Red Sox had an 8.5 game lead on the second place New York Yankees. Let the record show that five weeks later, Boston's lead in the East has shrunk drastically...by a whopping 1/2 game. Morale of the story? Chill out, my fellow Sox fans. This negative energy helps no one.

Also, it always tickles my special place when fans completely write off players who are battling through bad slumps. Last year it was Coco Crisp, this year Julio Lugo and J.D. Drew. Was Lugo absolutely painful to watch in the first half? Absolutely. Is Drew's lack of power a disappointment thus far? Without a doubt. But you know what? They're not going anywhere (and Lugo in particular has improved greatly at the plate), so again, relax and enjoy the fact that you're rooting for a first-place team.

I absolutely agree and love your attitude about struggling players like Crisp and Lugo and Drew. You can see how happy they are when they finally do well; it's not for lack of trying that they struggle, so why boo? And you're right about negative energy. It's as if Red Sox fans have to suffer and feel bad, even when the team is doing well!

Lugo and Drew get crucified and rightfullyso because of the contracts Theo and Trio gave them. $36 mil for a leadoff hitter and shortstop who can't hit or field. $70 mil for a 5 hole hitter to provide protection for Manny who can't hit for power or RBI or average. Never mind the fact that the 'Man of Steel' (Drew) can't stay in the line up. But hey we knew that, why didn't Theo and the Trio?

Real baseball fans rag on these guys because they suck balls right now. It's a good thing everyone in the division isn't that good or this team might be in some trouble. With that said I'm not panicking I think they'll cruise to the AL East title. But the "pink hats"* need to take a break and stop the encouragement for guys who haven't done anything to earn it.

* - a pink hat is a deragotory term for a Red Sox bandwagon jumper. A fan, male or female, who didn't know the team exisited before 2003.

As a Cardinals fan, I felt sorry for Red Sox fans(for about ten seconds) when DL Drew signed with the team. Then I realized that hey...they'll discover soon enough what a whiny pain in the ass this guy can be. Good luck, folks.

Right on OMDQ. People like Lugo and Drew have extensive successful track records, its just your average Red Sox/Yankee fan cannot comprehend that there is actually an element of LUCK in baseball.

the agony of red sox fans is so 20th century... now they complain having won a world series recently and having a healthy first-place lead...

steve, booing a guy who isn't playing well doesn't make you a real baseball fan. It just makes you a jackass who will kick a guy when he's down and pretend to be his best friend when he's going good.

Why are Lugo and Drew to blame for their crazy contracts? If someone approached you on the street tomorrow and offered far more than you were worth to do a particular job, you wouldn't take it?

I'm familiar with pink hats. My wife owns a pink visor that I plan to burn someday. But I, my friend, am NOT a bandwagon jumper and resent any implication to the contrary.
