Dan Patrick Is Officially NOT A Free Agent

Thursday, July 12, 2007

Wow...that was quick. In a deal that has to have been already made before his departure from ESPN, Dan Patrick is going into the Radio Syndication business ala Jim Rome.....(Via TBL)

"Also on the ESPN beat, Dan Patrick, who’s leaving the network after 18 years as one of its biggest stars, soon will announce his new deal: He’ll continue in radio and launch a new nationally syndicated program via Chicago-based Content Factory."
That's kind of a boring outcome, but it will make Dan-O a ton of money. And speaking of Jim Rome, good news for those of you in the DC Metro Area. Romo is back in the Nation's Capital! Woo hoo (that was sarcastic)!!! He'll be on 106.7 WJFK from 1-3pm before Don and Mike in the afternoon.

Come to think of it I'm actually pretty excited about that move. Anything to get rid of Bill O'Reilly.

Dan Patrick Already Got a Job (The Big Lead)
Dan Patrick Is Officially A Free Agent (Awful Announcing)

P.S.- Hopefully news of DP's recent hiring will help the attack on his Wiki page to die down.

UPDATE: From reader TC......"No Dan Patrick show today. It's just "ESPN Radio" and Scott Van Pelt is hosting. Absolutely no mention of it being Patrick's show. Maybe they sent him packing early with his new deal already in place?"

Very interesting.......dunh dunh dunh!

SVP is currently on ESPN Radio, and I've yet to hear a "filling in for Dan Patrick" or any of the customary DP bumps or drops. He's still on the website, but I imagine with the announcement of his new deal he's gone as of now.

Have a take, do not suck. Rome is light years better than Cockherd.

"Dan Patrick is going into the Radio Syndication business ala Jim Rome"

Wow, almost word for word what I wrote when I broke this story, but no mention of my blog. No mention of even Joe McDonnell, too, who was the first one to guess this.

I blame this more on The Big Lead, but still... come on. Give credit where credit is due. I don't want to hate good blogs.

I'm glad you brought this up because I just got done listening to the show and I noticed the same thing: not one mention of "The Dan Patrick Show", or even a "Van Peesie filling in for DP", just the odd "ESPN Radio" referrence.

SVP also concluded by stating that he'd be back tomorrow without ever saying he was taking Dan's spot for a day or two, like every other guest host in the history of the program has done.

Hmmm....

Daniel- If you wanted to "break" the story you should have emailed it to the "good" sports blogs. When no one has ever heard of your site it's hard to claim you broke a story.

I'd also read your version of the story if your site would load. But alas....it won't.

Not on this morning [Thursday] unexpected sub. wonder if it has anything to do with the blog announcement that he had something else before he quit? Did not mention his name only ESPN radio suspect at best.

Blogs are about making you laugh/being controversial, not "breaking" stories.

I was referring to this blog as a good blog- that's why we had that email correspondence when it first happened. I respect you, so I emailed it to you.

And how are people supposed to hear of a blog unless it is properly linked to?

Way to play the "I'm bigger than you" card, though. That was cool.

Dude Dan...I never got an email from you. Sorry if you tried to send one. If I would have got it from you I would have certainly linked you.

Your not always going to get linked. Also, I'm not bigger than anyone in this world, but if you make accqusations like that I'm going to say something.

Talk a breath...calm down...and make sure your emails go through.

Looks like DP is officially persona non grata at the WWL. His show began as just "ESPN radio; now, here's Scott Van Pelt".
No "this is the Dan Patrick Show. Filling in for Dan is...; nothing. And Van Pelt is saying just "this is ESPN radio".

Interesting...
