ESPN/ABC To Televise First Game From Cowboys New Stadium
Tuesday, January 06, 2009
According to Sports Business Daily's John Ourand, ESPN has scheduled the first game at the Cowboys' Stadium in 2009, and it will feature a pretty interesting matchup. BCS Championship contender Oklahoma will travel due South to Arlington, TX, where they'll meet up with Mountain West powerhouse BYU....
ESPN will televise the first college football game from the new Cowboys stadium September 5, when Oklahoma plays BYU. The game will be part of ESPN Kickoff Week presented by Gillette. ESPN has not decided yet whether to telecast the game on ESPN or ABC. The game will kick off a five-year deal that will see ESPN or ABC telecast a Labor Day weekend game from the new stadium. "We are delighted to present this compelling game and impressive new venue to a national audience, and look forward to working with Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys in future years to build a new tradition in college football," said ESPN/ABC Sports President George Bodenheimer. That's a great game, and probably the best venue to hold it in. At least since it's not a Cowboys' game, we won't be beat over the head with Jerry Jones interviews and mentions. Although, I don't see how they won't have something with him at some point or another.

Fuck Jerral Jones. That is all.
Seriously...he couldn't get Arkinsaw in there, since his beloved Cowboys won't have started up the season yet? Wow...
Arkansas is playing A&M there every year. I don't know if it starts in 2009 but I know they signed a long-term deal.
And I assume there will be a game there before this one...like a preseason game, right?

Does that stadium have a ABC/ESPN brand restaurant?
i'm not a cowboys fan, but shouldn't the first game at the stadium be a cowboys game???

Well, the stadium's Wiki page (I know, I know) said that the stadium won't be completed until August, so the preseason games will presumably be played in Texas Stadium. That's why a college game will be the first one there, whether or not it's "right" for it to be that way.
I hope this is the new trend in FBS - bowl-like games early in the year at neutral sites with between conferences, like the game last year in Atlanta between Alabama and Clemson and next year between Alabama and Virginia. Aren't these games at the beginning of the year better than the end?
This is off topic, but does anyone think that the Mountain West should replace the Big East as a BCS conference? Or should the BCS be scrapped in favour of the old system- bowl games before 1998: where there were six meaningful bowl games which took place on New Year's Day without rankings and BCS computers? Thoughts?
How about the MWC replaces the 2-11-in-the-BCS ACC? The Big East gets all the hate when it's nowhere near as awful in the BCS as the ACC is (outside this year).
Or a playoff. Which would make 10x the cash the bowls make. It also makes too much sense.
So will OU play 2 games there next year? I thought I read somewhere that the Red River Shootout was moving there.
Jerry Jones is a crook. I guess he scheduled Oklahoma so he can actually see a winning team there. His ticket prices are so outrageous for the new stadium, I wouldn't be surprised to see 10k empty seats for cowboys games
TEX/OU still at the Cotton Bowl.
THEY HAVEN'T WON A PLAYOFF GAME IN 13 YEARS!!! STOP SHOVING THIS TEAM DOWN OUR THROAT!!!
OU/Texas will be at the NEW Cotton Bowl. OU gets to play two games next season in brand new stadiums.
Is this new stadium going to feature a huge statue of Jerry Jones outside? I can definitely see himself doing something like that.
