Who's Now?: The Video Clip

Tuesday, July 03, 2007

Just so you don't think I'm crazy about this whole Who's Now crap....AA has pulled the video. Don't watch it if you don't want your day ruined....

(In serious voice)..."The thing that's hurting Matt Leinart right now is that it's early in the game."- Herbstreit

Now that's analysis folks!

I'm not going to watch that.

The whole thing is so silly. The buzz of an athlete? Doesn't ESPN basically determine that, anyway? Why have the faux brackets other than to fill time?

Question: Why even bother posting about this?

I think this shows the disconnect between the sports blog community and mainstream sports fans. Everyone bloggy has shat on it, myself included, but on ESPN.com, there's 1000s of comments about the match-ups, people searching about it. People are into it even though it's utter drivel. It's kind of interesting in that respect.

I caught a bit of this the other day, and I was just wondering what the hell was going on? What's the point of this?

Jul 3, 2007, 2:46:00 PM

Stupidest. Feature. Ever.

Made worse by the fact that Stuart Scott seems to think it matters.

They have to do something with Stu... I say they replace that gargoyle with Erin Andrews. He scares the children.

Good point BOH Chris...I liken it to the MTV Theory. While Music Fans may not like it...they make an assload of money with the format. Same with ESPN.

Otter- Because I care.

I couldn't even make it through the clip. It's that bad.

after watching this thing for about 1:30, i think i may have to kiss keyshawn.
last week, my wife and i were on vacation and we caught this stupid thing and she said what "the hell is this?" followed by "what do they get if they win?"
the answer to both of those questions: nothing

also, herbstreit is insane.

It's July. Other than baseball, the only things going on are Wimbledon, golf and auto racing. It's the time of year when we get subjected to boring sports events like the Tour de France. That's why we're so desperate to watch preseason football when August rolls around. Hence the need for ESPN to fill time.

Why are they dragging this out??? The two "Now" finalists will be LeBron and Tiger. End of fucking show.

I, unfortunately, caught 5 minutes of this waiting for a sandwich in Planet Smoothie last Friday. What an incredible waste of TV time. And just another moronic forum for moronic Stuart Scott. BOO-YA.

i almost watched this clip but then decided to not torture myself. what is teh point of this i think they saw all the bracket stuff going on in blogs and thought hey we should get in on it without understanding the point. perhaps they should have an espn personality who needs to go bracket now that would be fun.*

if not them, then i have found my calling

I'm ready to start a fix Stuart Scott's eye website. Who's with me?

I now have hatred for all four of those guys. But mostly Stu Scott.

I came in to that segment halfway the other day and my first thought was that they were debating who was the better athlete: Matt Leinart or Tiger Woods. It's kind of like debating who's hotter, Erin Andrews or Stuart Scott. Just shocking.

Matt will be lucky if he is said to be trhe best QB IN HIS DAFT CLASS! Tiger woods is the best golfer to ever play. Tiger takes it easy

You hit it exactly. Our "remember when MTV played music videos" will be our little brothers' "remember when ESPN showed sports." It's times like this I wish I got ESPN News.

I don't really care for the whole thing. But the chic who does the voice over listing the credentials of the two athletes has a sexy voice. Any clue who she is?

Troy -- are you 100% sure you want ESPNews? those hosts are worse, putting way too much pizazz into their voice. That's why i try to watch FSN's highlight show if i can...

Anyways, I digress from the main topic. The worst thing about this is that ESPN thinks they can rewrite the dictionary. "Now" is not an adjective!

And whoever wrote this quote on Wikipedia hit it on the head: This series is one example ESPN and SportsCenter having wasted time on trivial matters when there is the opportunity to cover results from other sports around the world. A similar situation involved a 2005 series comparing college football dynasties to the USC Trojans football team.

The bracket's rules explicitly state that "on-field excellence" is a condition for making this list.

So, how exactly did Danica Patrick qualify?

This has got to be the worst idea, ever.
ESPN still shows news, sometimes.
July is a terrible sports month.

My own personal hell would consist of me continuously watching who's now segments. I would rather claw my own eyes out then watch a segment of who's now. It has got to he the worst idea in the history of bad ideas. I die a little bit inside each time I see it on the television and immdiately have to change the channel.
