Championship Edition Of Countdown: Open Thread

Sunday, January 20, 2008

It's 4 hours or so until gametime so I'm going to kill some time by breaking down the 2-hour edition of Countdown. Why you ask? Well I ask you why not??? First up....Ray Lewis talking about weather and saying "the bottom line" a lot. Video in a few...

Not bad, but he had a little bit of Emmittitis in a few spots. I'm going to need some help with this second video. Is Berman making a joke or did he really just call Norv Turner....Norv Turnover?

Did anybody else think the whole Brady Bunch thing was incredibly cheesy? (Via Nos)

Yes....yes I did, but I didn't think it was as bad as the Brett Favre running naked thing. I also laughed at the Brady one at least twice.

Emmittisms of the day and other quotes:

"9 straight road wins make them the best road team since Hannibal."- Chris Berman

"If the Giants win today they possibly go onto the SuperBowl."- Emmitt Smith

Man I was with you Emmitt. You were actually making a great point there for a second....

20 Comments:

Ray Lewis is pretty good, but that's not much of a shock. Emmitt might be a little embarrassed when he watches this film.

There is your naked Farve, hope you got some good screen shots. Oh, and it was an old one, they used that a couple years ago.

Wow! Cousin Ray-Ray has taken some speech lessons...I am impressed...

I had never thought of him as a future broadcaster, but I do now...

The Norv Turnover thing was indeed a joke, and not a bad one at that.

Jared, you think so? He seemed to deliver that one a little too smoothly to me.

If you're not watching CBS, you just missed a Tom Selleck-narrarated recap of the Patriotis season. My wife is quivering in her bathrobe and I'm just relieved it wasn't another ode to the stubbly greatness of Favre.

Hockey is back on NBC! Thank God. It's been almost a year since I've seen them show a New York Rangers game! I love last-place hockey!

James Brown on CBS: "We're about to witness history in the making..."

Sure, the Patriots are 14 point favorites and half the Chargers are in the hospital, but aren't we actually playing the game?

As much as I don't want to see Mercury Morris tomorrow and the Chargers wreck the Super Bowl, I'd love to see Jim Nantz have to call the Patriots' losing game that much more.

Ray Ray was great on the sidelines this year, pretty funny too.

And he's a loose cannon, like Spielman, so he could be an exciting dynamic presence.

Put it this way, I mean, he has the potential to maybe possibly be the best, cuz he's had to deal with adversity and he did play well because of it, well, pretty good. All he has done is possibly do a pretty good job, if he does today, he can possibly make an appearance on tv again, against all those odds. All of them, all of them.

If Jim Nantz has to sit there and try to make it through a game in which Tom Brady has gotten his legs twisted like a Superpretzel by CloverMerriman and Bill Billicheek gets inadvertently caught in a sideline tackle and has his neck broken, it will be possibly, maybe the best day of my life, even if it's against all those odds, all of them.
