Look Out College Kids, Stardom Is Coming Your Way!

Friday, January 18, 2008

This is tough to explain, and I honestly haven't figured out all the details yet, but apparently there's something called the "Grid Iron Bash" that's coming to a University near you. It appears to be a combination of Football Practice, a Fan Zone, A Contest of some sort, and a badass concert.

MSL Sports and Entertainment today announced that simultaneous live performances by Fergie, Kelly Clarkson, ZZ Top, Maroon 5, Dwight Yoakam and a slate of other renowned artists will highlight the agenda at about 20 Division I universities nationwide on April 18 for the inaugural Gridiron Bash(TM), timed for the evening before Spring Games. Gridiron Bash(TM), the Ultimate Fan Competition(TM), will be the largest single-day sports and entertainment event ever to take place on college campuses.

MSL Sports and Entertainment is in final discussions with Good Charlotte, OAR, Counting Crows, Fall Out Boy, Taylor Swift, and Montgomery Gentry. Other artists including, Hank Williams Jr., Lynyrd Skynyrd, Journey, Steve Miller Band, Goo Goo Dolls, 3 Doors Down and Alan Jackson also are being pursued.
Do college kids even know who Dwight Yoakam is? And Fergie??? Come on. I went to a College that put on a Hoobastank concert that sold out in 10 minutes, but I'm pretty sure we'd have booed Fergie off the stage.

If you go to one of these schools.....Texas A&M, Tennessee, Army, Rutgers, Kansas State, WVU, Penn State, Colorado, Penn State, University of Iowa, Arizona State, Maryland, South Carolina, Washington, Kentucky, University of Texas at El Paso, BYU, Auburn, Alabama and Boston College.....keep your fingers crossed for Journey!

two things:
(1) Penn State is no this list twice, I'm not sure what that means

(2) Penn State already has a concert that typically (at least used to) get somewhat national acts such as wilco to play a concert the saturday of the spring game. It was called 'moving on' and didn't always suck. Does this mean that is no more?

West Virginia is putting in to get the group that used to be called the 'Dead Schembechlers' to perform.

My fingers ARE crossed for Journey.

We usually get a couple good free (or really cheap) concerts a year here in CP, so I'm not too surprised we're in that group.

I just hope we don't get O.A.R. since they're from Maryland... I've seen them enough times already.
