Tiki Barber Will Not Shut Up About The Giants

Tuesday, September 04, 2007

This could very well be a PR stunt at this point, but Tiki Barber is back on the Giants case again. This time he's back to ragging on his former coach Tom Coughlin and he pens in his new book that the Giants' Coach was the reason he quit the game...

The recently retired star running back has used his new memoir to rip Big Blue boss Tom Coughlin, blaming his former head coach for driving him from the game he loved.

"If Tom Coughlin had not remained as head coach of the Giants, I might still be in a Giants uniform," Barber wrote in his upcoming book "Tiki: My Life in the Game and Beyond," excerpts of which were obtained by the Daily News.

"[Coughlin] robbed me of what had been one of the most important things I had in my life, which was the joy I felt playing football," Barber wrote. "I had lost that. He had taken it away."
I don't know about you, but Tiki Barber couldn't be more annoying at this point. I think NBC should have really watched the end of his career to see how much of a cancer he was to that team.

NBC now has a Bob Costas (who wishes he was covering baseball), A Political Pundit, Two former players who bash their coaches, Peter King, and Chris Collinsworth. I know a bunch of you think this is the best pre-game and halftime team out there, but you might want to watch CBS this Sunday. Just change the channel when Shannon Sharpe talks.

Tiki Barber would still be Giant if Tom Coughlin was not coach, former RB's memoir reveals (NY Daily News)

10 Comments:

Barber was best known as a fumbler before Coughlin became Giants' coach. Coughlin scared him into holding on to the ball more, and Barber went on to have some great years. If he hadn't had those great years, I doubt he would have the media gig he has now.

Barber should be grateful to Coughlin, but gratitude doesn't sell books.

More of the "It's New York. It's Important" attitude of the media.

By the way, which team plays on NBC this Sunday night?

Is there any other former player in recent memory that went from Star to A--hole in such a short period of time. He is definitely someone who has been reading his own press clippings. Mark Mcguire looked bad at the steriod hearing, but at least he had enough class to not accuse anyone else for his screwups.

He's not an a-hole. He's selling a book and generating publicity for NBC's Sunday night opener.

"He's selling a book and generating publicity for NBC's Sunday night opener."

Well, yeah, that makes him an even BIGGER asshole.

I am a NYG Fan and a Tiki fan, but enough is enough. No one person should be able to strip you of what you love the most. What is that "thing" gain? That's right it's YOU. Way to go out like a bitch Tiki!

Tiki Barber--overrated as a player and now we are supposed to care what he has to say? No. Go away. That you didn't play because of Coughlin verifies your wussification is complete.

Tiki Barber is one of the most self-consumed, self-indulgent, hedonistic freaks in sports. You know that saying: "Legend in his own mind."? Well, it was penned for him. He cares about NOTHING but himself. As great as he was last year, it masks the fact that he dug the heart out of the team for his own purposes. His venom was eating away at the fabric of the team.
He's a BAD person, contrary to what he'd like you to believe.

AND, that deliberate, choreographed, "Tiki" we now see, will not play very long. He will fail, because he will wear out any welcome he ever had, relatively quickly.

He's an A-Hole.

Hey Tiki,
As someone who was born and bred in NYC....GO BACK TO VIRGINIA. The Mara family did nothing but adore you and treat you as one of their family. Yet you spit on the grave of Wellington Mara. You have no class. No one particularly loves their boss (Coughlin)..,but we don't quit our jobs and let down the people we work with.
Clearly you feel the need to "say something" to make your "splash" in your new job as studio analyst. How about talking about something people would find illuminating. Perhaps a discussion about your successes against certain defenses and why or how, as a player, you would prepare for another team, the season, etc... Just STOP taking cheap shots at your former team. It is destroying your legacy.
