Greg Paulus Should Try Out For The Italian National Soccer Team

Wednesday, January 16, 2008

You're going to have to bear with me as I change my Sports team hatred over real quick....OSU Football-Out, Duke Basketball- In (I kid I kid), but seriously was anyone else aware that Duke is getting nine more fouls (5 tonight) called for them a game? Were you also aware that Greg Paulus learned his acting skills from a combination Manu Ginobili and Marlon Brando?

I spliced these together so they'd fit on the clip, but they happened on back-to-back possessions.....

Neither the refs or the announcers could get the call(s) right at all and Duke ended up running away with a game that should have gone to the wire. My favorite part of the whole clip is when Mike Patrick says that Paulus gets hit in the back of the head and the kid grabs his nose (this isn't the first time that Patrick has fallen for Paulus either).

Seriously, Paulus needs his SAG card after that set of performances.

Paulus sucks and he is a little whinny bitch. First he smacked the center in the head, then he swung his elbows and kicked at guys...but hes the one grabbing his face. Everyone talks about how tough he is...thats why he chose to play basketball over football...

The reason the announcers couldn't get it right is because they still assign that asshole homer Jay Bilas to every Duke game that the asshole random Duke fan (DICKy V) isn't doing.

My favorite picture ever is the one of Paulus in front of the visitor bench last year at Comcast, wiping tears from his eyes with his jersey. At the exact moment the AP photo was taken, I was 5 rows behind him screaming at him about how much of a bitch he was (right before a UMD free throw when it was silent), it was amazing.

The anti-Duke hatred is funny and all, but at least make it match up with the game.

There was no foul called on Reid on the first play, and on the second play they called double technicals on Paulus and Ryan Reid.

And you're right, the blood from his mouth was coincidental.

I wouldn't get on Bilas too much. He tried to point out in both instances that you couldn't really see exactly what happened. Unlike Mike Patrick, who was acting like Paulus was shot by the evil FSU players. He is the king of overdramatic. I am surprised he didn't throw in an "are you kidding me!!?" for good measure.

Bilas usually does a pretty good and unbiased job with Duke games. Better then Vitale at least. Last night would have been unbearable with him.

If Paulus would cut out 1/2 of his extracurricular "look at me" antics after the whistle blows, have the fracas' he's in involved in wouldn't happen. The kid would killed on a playground trying some of that stuff on a playground. American History X style. Seriously, he would die.

Also, did Paulus cry last year? I knew McBob did. Is that what you were thinking about?

Wait. Are you telling me Duke played on ESPN last night? Finally!

Duke fans put some of this on themselves when they proposed to "make a statement" earlier this year because "ESPN is using them." I wish ESPN used my alma mater. Eighteen times a year. And my alma mater has made it past the Sweet 16 in the last 5 years!

its a 'jump to conclusions' mat, it has different 'conclusions' that you can 'jump to'. Get it?

One says 'jump again', the other says 'he punched him in the back of the head', the other says 'don't comment on the that FSU player getting kicked'....see?

Wow Duke getting all the calls? Excuse me while I die of shock. If Paulus thinks that was a rough game, he's going out of the Dean Dome on a stretcher on Feb 6th. GO HEELS!

FSU committed 6 fouls once they were down 5 with 1:30 left (compared to one from Duke) and had to foul to save the clock. So just saying that Duke had a +5 foul differential is a bit misleading. FSU got back into the game largely because they were in the bonus with 14:00 left in the 2nd half. Paulus does act like a douche, but he got a T for kicking and Reid got a T for throwing the punch.

Where are you pulling the foul differential stats from, BP? I couldn't find them at ESPN, kenpom, basketballstate...

How do they stack up to other top ten teams?

I like Greg Paulus. I don't give a fuck. He plays hard, he's ugly, he's my kind of player. Now that bitch Scheyer, that's another story.

I've never made any excuses for Duke getting more fouls than everyone else, but the person above makes a good point. If your leading at the end of the game, as Duke often does, you are going to get a bunch of fouls. As far as announcing goes, I think Bilas does a good job, since most Duke fans dislike him greatly, but it really is ESPN's fault for putting him on Duke games. He's either going to come off as a homer or say everything possible to not be a homer. ESPN kinda screws him in that regard.

FSU had shot more free throws than Duke until the very end of the game when FSU had to foul to get the ball back.

If Paulus played for any other team, he wouldn't be nearly so hated. I find it wildly hypocritical that the Duke-haters complain about Duke being whiny. Give it a rest, fellas.

Also, the difference in fouls was 3 more called on FSU, which is the fouls that they intentionally gave at the end of the game.

I think it's pretty old news that Duke and UNC get all the calls from the refs/love from the announcers.

I gotta agree with mdz above about the foul differential stat....probably a little skewed. With that said, Paulus is still a little bitch. That flop on the first play of the clip should at least earn him a spot on the USA World Cup Soccer Team.

Reid definitely deserved a foul called on him for "throwing a punch" but he did it because he was trying to protect his teammate from getting kicked and scratched by that C-word Paulus. No fouls would have been called if Paulus acted like a man during an aggressive play on the floor.

A quick (somewhat) scan of the boxscores of all 5 top 5 teams leaves you with these differntials in fouls:

UNC +5.05
Memphis +1.69
Kansas +1.94
UCLA +5.88
Duke +4.75

If any of you actually watched the scrum that resulted in the double technicals on Paulus and Reid instead of resorting to standard Duke bashing you would have seen that Paulus kicked his legs as a direct result of getting an intentional blow to the face from the back of Isaiah Swann's hand after the whistle.
Swann hit Paulus, Paulus kicked back, then Reid hit Paulus.
Paulus and Reid deserved their T's but the true instigator Swann got away scot-free

Are you people posting actually FSU fans, or just like to be on the cool side of an argument? Sad really how a middle-of-the-road Duke team can inspire such hatred. What's wrong with all of you?

Not to mention the Clemson-Duke clock screw up last year. Mike Patrick didn't mention once that they only took .6 seconds off for a whole three point shot. If the ACC had fair refs, Duke and UNC would be screwed.

Reid is a thug.. a few plays before he punched Paulus, he got away with an intentional foul (throwing Paulus down)... not that I can blame him for taking out anger on Paulus...

Just an idea: If you hate the commentators, use the mute button.

There can never be enough Duke hatred and I mean they always seem to find players who you can loathe....Paulus is a big douchebag....I'd like to see some sort of ranking for all the ass clowns Duke has produced over the years. Hurley, Laettner, Battier, Wojo, Collins, Dunleavy, Parks, and the list goes on and on.

I like Duke AND UNC Two of the
greatest programs in BB history.
So I am objective in saying that
kicking in a pile is not the same as throwing a punch with your fist.
That is SUPPOSED to be an automatic
thumb to the locker room and a
decision whether to suspend for the
next game (check the rules) Reid
lucked out.

"Punched in the face?" I'm pretty sure you have to use your fist for it to be a punch and reid's hand made some contact to the back of paulus' head. It was nowhere near a punch. Then paulus grabs his nose, even though if you look closely paulus' nose is never touched. He then has scheyer carry him off like he just took a severe beating. He's a pussy. period. And I can't even begin to talk about Mike Patrick, I mute the TV when he's announcing. Paulus sucks and I don't know why Duke fans support him, you should be calling for him to be benched.

While Duke may be +9 in foul differential
they have matched or exceeded this average only three times this season.

N.C. Central +9
Albany +16
Marquette +11

In the N.C. Central and Albany games I don't think it matters all that much.

The Devils could not have beaten Marquette without the benefit of some fortunate bounces of the basketball and call by the zebras.

Duke has only been in a foul deficit once this year and that is in their lone loss to Pitt(-1).

In support of th collusion argument I will add that officials who screw Duke do not get invited back to Cameron and lose television money as Duke is always on TV.

Duke has the best player in the ACC in Gerald Henderson and will finish no lower than second in the ACC this year no matte r what the officials do from here on out.

Are you UNC fans serious? Psycho T goes to the free throw line more than anyone in the country. Your team leads the nation in free throws. And you think the officals are giving Duke the calls? What planet are you living on?
And please stop the Dickie V bashing. He gushes for ol Roy and the Tarholes as much as he does for Duke. You're showing your pathetic stupidity if you think he's only a "Dookie."

And if we're listing an all hate team - how about Chickie Yonaker, JR Reid, Mahktar Ndyia (remember his infamous racial slur allegatoin that was false?), "Joey Forte," and King Rice. BTW - are those guys out of jail yet?
