In a very classy move The Washington Nationals and Major League Baseball let their players show their support for Virginia Tech in their own way Tuesday night. Every player got to put on a VT hat, and the best part was that the idea came from a fan and supportive Marylander....
The idea came from a fan named Dave Lanham from Calvert County, Md. He e-mailed team president Stan Kasten in the middle of the afternoon. Kasten thought it was a great idea and ordered 40 hats. The hats arrived in the first inning.The hats were shipped right before the game which explains the different colors and logos on each hat. I know the Nationals have a big sponsor in Modells, so if they had a hand in this....good for them.
The Nationals also had a moment of silence for the victims at Virginia Tech for the second straight day.
Sports has always played a role in healing and while this isn't a Piazza homer after 9-11....it's a good gesture.
