Weighing-In On The Whole Sock Nonsense

Thursday, April 26, 2007

Take a minute to watch the video....

So here's my take on it.....Who cares??? I can understand why the Red Sox fans might be a tad defensive, but seriously calm down. Do you really think that Gary Thorne would lie about something like that? Of course not. Mirabelli was probably just messing around with him and he took it seriously (or not seriously...however you look at it).

If everyone is so concerned why don't you write letters to Cooperstown and have them run DNA tests on the thing. It can even be a CSI episode like the Cubs/Bartman incident was. A few points.....

A) You shouldn't listen to Gary Thorne to begin with.
B) You won the World Series....that's all that should matter.
C) That's blood.
D) Don't you think there's a reason Gary has been relegated to regional baseball coverage?
E) ESPN......please just put Bob Ley back in his cage until something relevant happens. You don't need an impromptu Outside the Lines for this.

Must be a slow news day, because this isn't worth the controversy.

I agree 100% with your take. There is no reason at all to care about this.

Like Deadspin said earlier - even if Thorne's version of the story is correct and Schilling actually did paint the sock, does it really matter? The truth is that he played with a serious injury that limited his effectiveness for the entire 2005 season - whether or not he played up the injury to gain additional publicity, he was still injured.

No. I will not accept this ending. If I am going to get all fired up over a non-story, I need a better conclusion than "Oh, it was a misunderstanding from two years ago."

Some one is lying. Some one is making shit up. And we need someone to get to the bottom of this.

I wish there was a hard-hitting investigative journalist with a wispy mustache and a trench coat who could get to the bottom of this.

Thanks to Thorne, I believe we have a new phrase now "confessed up to it." That seems like a combination of the popular confessed to it, and fessed up to it. Way to go Thorne.

Versus should have scooped up Gary to do Hockey. The one thing he calls well.

It's all very simple...and already said...someone said a fib. And because it's easy to hate Schilling, I'll take the easy road.

I blame Mike Greenberg for making this a bigger story than it ever should have been. He spent practically his entire show acting like this was akin to the grassy knoll theory. And, unfortunately, it was picked up, and expounded upon, by the Shrutebag and Dan Patrick.
