Schrutebag vs. Olbermann- Round 1

Wednesday, April 18, 2007

Oh man....here he goes again. Just when you think the guy has maybe learned his lesson he's back at it.

Audio: Colin wonders whyInsider NBC hired Keith Olbermann for Sunday Night Football.

The segment begins with Cowhered stating that "we had a couple of decisions from networks....one brilliant and one a head scratcher." He then goes into how HBO did a great job by hiring Martial Arts experts to call the matches on the channel. I agree....then he drops the bomb.

"Probably get in trouble for this. It's amazing how much you get in trouble for honesty" (Oh god....don't do it Colin....you're going to regret this)

Conversly, and I’ll get in trouble for this. NBC this week has put Keith Olbermann on Sunday Night Football in America with Bob Costas. Olbermann is bright and talented and a really good broadcaster, but he’s about as middle-america as a transgender film festival. He’s a Northeast Intellectual Baseball Guy….he doesn’t speak to the NFL fan at all!

Keith is about as NFL as Pinot Grigio and an ascot. I can’t think of anyone who is less than Keith Olbermann other than maybe Anderson Cooper.
Wow. Okay first...."Transgender Film Festival"??? What in the hell does that mean. Second....umm didn't Olbermann host an NFL highlight show with Chris Collinsworth at one point??? And third, it's f'ing highlights which he did for years on SportsCenter.

I don't care how you feel about the decision to put 40 people on the Pre and Halftime Shows don't you think that attacking Olbermann's credibility is just sad and pathetic?

And just to let us know how much credibility he actually has........

"I love Joe Buck....I think Joe Buck on Fox is my favorite play by play guy in the Country. He speaks to me."

(Much Much More to come....I've already heard Olbermann's response and it's great, but I want to hear the audio again before I start quoting it.)

UPDATE #1: Play the clip until there is 5:15 left for fabulous commentary on Moroccan food, and a HILARIOUS cous-cous joke.

UPDATE #2: I implore you to read this Sports By Brooks Post from today. Here comes the controversy!

UPDATE #3: Here are Keith Olbermann's comments in response after hearing the clip......

Who is this again?- KO
It's Colin Cowherd....he's a radio host on ESPN. He does the show prior to this one.- DP
I'm not familiar...has he been here long?- KO
He's been here.....he took over for Tony Kornheiser- DP
Ohhhh.....what did he do before that?- KO
He was in Portland, Oregon....very successful in Portland, Oregon- DP
Ever done television?- KO
He did television in Las Vegas I believe- DP
Did he do NFL Highlights on National Television after Sunday and Monday Night games, and all day Sunday for say ESPN for any length of time?- KO
I don't believe he ever has.- DP

Hahahaha. I just love when you're so badass and relevant that you can just ask questions and hint at all of the stuff you've ever done. The "who are you again" line can never be topped. Shrutebag once again......Owned.

Cowherd is such a jealous egomaniac. It is so transparent that he would kill to do what Olbermann does.

A late night talk show host? WTF? Is he retarded?

Oh man K.O. on the 'Big Show' with Dan Patrick today was a TKO! I like Colin but this didn't make any sense. Maybe he forgot that KO worked with ESPN and Dan patrick earlier.

Oh, little Buckaroo Colin is just, well, foaming at the mouth because somebody else got a better gig. and that KO can actually, you know, spell. And think.

The anti-intellectualism would be astounding if it weren't so commonplace. Olbermann is too "intellectual" to connect to football fans? Is Cowherd for real? Why is being smart bad?

Oh, and Cowherd saying of Joe Buck, "He speaks to me," is pretty much the most classic thing I've ever heard.

Putting Cowherds idiotic comments aside...

Why would NBC hire KO? Don't they already have 100 studio people for the Sunday Night pregame show.

Loved Olbermann's response about this on today's Dan Patrick Show. "What's this guy's name again? And he has a show? On the radio?"

Well, K.O.'s got a good sense of humor, Brett, and he was great at keeping things light on ESPN back in the day. He's also got a lot of experience hosting a highlight show, and as much as I love Costas, I don't find him terribly inspiring on Football Night in America. I'd much rather see him in a booth than on a highlight show.

NBC probably added him in part to promote Countdown, his MSNBC news program, as well - it certainly couldn't hurt the ratings for the latter.

Well there are alot of people on the NBC show but the quality would seem unmatched right? ESPN has alot of people but they are all shills. Keith has never been afraid to say any thing, not has Chris and I think their back and forth will be fun to watch, also Bob is the gold standard, and there is Peter King who I would take over ANY of the reporters at ESPN. Really seems like a great move guys.

NBC is just trying to cross-promote the NBC and MSNBC platform. Olbermann is MSNBC's top-rated primetime show and they want it to continue growing.

But, more importantly, is Cowherd (by saying) Olbermann is too intellectual and doesn't connect to the NFL audience, also saying that Costas and Collingsworth are morons and are lower than KO?

Last I checked, Costas and CC have numerous Emmy's amongst them.

Really put his foot in mouth this time.

joe buck can speak to colin cowherd as much as he wants. that means joe buck wont be speaking to me. and that would be sweet.

tecmo bowl just expressed my inermost desire. Perhaps we could get a channel with joe buck and colin cowherd and billy packer and then no one oculd order it and they would go away.

I wish both of those morons would be locked in a room with six angry pitbulls that have just been in a pitbull cage match with each other. Not quite dead, but bloody and pissed off.

And put Dan Patrick in there as well.

Olberman has a lot of room to talk... he has an audience of 11 people for his MSNBC show. He's failed at everthing he's done since he left ESPN, and needed his ol' buddy Dan to make him relevant again.

I compare KO to Dave Matthews Band.

Used to be good, has sucked ever since leaving ESPN/dropping Steve Lillywhite.

And I used to love them both and would happily give each a chance to not suck from now on.

It's not like Olbermann will be talking politics during football highlights. He didn't during Sportscenter.

And again, Schurtebag is just evil

Apr 19, 2007, 3:05:00 PM

Olbermann is a chump, he will fit right in on what is the worst football show I have ever seen. Nothing like a bunch of sissies siting around in their comfortable leather chairs zapping each other with little gag items to while away the evening. Bettis should be kept out of the hall of fame for being on that crew.

I can see Costas now, thinking he's now got an intellectual equal that he can go out on one of those long-winded Bob Costas free associations.

He'll spend the show trying to hit on Olderman...

Two total idiots...

Bring back Sharpe.

I don't care for either one, but Keith really had the opportunity here to take the high road and establish some goodwill and didn't. Keith's more established than Colin anyway (at this point). Why would he respond in the manner he did if "that guy" is so insignifcant to him? Again, this type of behavior by Olbermann is why he's had 43 jobs (that's called sarcasm before anyone interprets it another way from where he gets fired on a routine basis - it's just shocking that MSNBC keeps him on while O'Reiley keeps beating his brains in w/ ratings) over the last 15 years or so. I'm just disappointed that Keith couldn't act like a grown-up when somebody expressed their opinions on his hiring.

What a hoot - KO knows exactly who Cowherd is. Someone needs to gouge KO eyes out with an ice pick. God I hate that A-Hole. Also poster above is right, O'Reilly is kicking KO ass in the ratings war.
