The Complete Sports Blogger's NFL Mock Draft Version 1.0

Wednesday, April 11, 2007

A lot of great things have happened at, or because of this site for me...Live-Blogs, Radio Interviews, Television, Print Media...but I'm pretty sure this will be the early leader in the clubhouse.

I introduce to you The Complete Sports Blogger's NFL Mock Draft Version 1.0!

(Here is a portion of the email I sent out to over 50 bloggers last night at around 10 pm.)
______________________

The Breakdown: For the next week or so I'm going to assign a blogger/site to each of the 32 1st Round Draft Picks (and if there's enough interest....the 2nd Round).
There are about 50 of you on this list, some big sites.....some smaller ones, but all equally awesome in my eyes (and on my RSS Reader making it easier to email). It's going to be first come, first serve......so get me a reply with your team choice as soon as possible.

The Process: Starting on Monday April 23....The Year of our Lord Two Thousand and Seven.....The person with the Raiders will draft first. Each person will then follow with a different player until we're done with the first round. Culminating in a ridiculously long email chain and Mock Draft (Also, unrelenting heckling/mocking/embarrassment to a degree you are not prepared for).

The Rules: There are no rules. You can pick "your team" if you want, or the team with the prettiest colors. Doesn't really matter to me........I just need all of the spots filled. You can pick your player based on his name, jersey #, benefit to your team, or Sean Salisbury's method.....Looks.

The Awesome Payoff: We'll have a "Blogger's Mock Draft", which we can compare to the "experts". On top of that we can ridicule whoever takes Brady Quinn, and ultimately the receiver The Lions' GM will take.
________________________

Well to my surprise just about everyone got involved, and within a matter of minutes. Here's how it's going to go down.......

Before the draft......Preparation and analysis will be key. Every single blog has the opportunity to trade their pick to another GM (Blog) if they so choose. For example....The Big Lead could trade the Falcons to me for the Patriots second pick in the first for.....well, basically anything. It could be a week's worth of posts.....a link on the site.....an add in a site's blogroll.....a free t-shirt.....you get the idea.

On Draft day......At an undisclosed location in downtown New York City (Email) each Sports Aficionado will step to the podium (hit reply in said email) and make their selection. Every single GM will be able to respond/heckle said pick (reply all button), and hilarity will ensue. Pretty simple right?

The audience (you the commenter) will then have an opportunity on Monday April 23rd and Tuesday April 24th to tell them why they were right or wrong. There will be 16 picks each day, and they will go up every 15 minutes starting at 12 noon.

For those of you not involved I'm sorry I couldn't get word to you. But there's still an opportunity for you! I'd like to have a whole new set of 32 Blogs do the 2nd round. Overkill? Probably, but who cares right??? It will be fun.....trust me. If you are interested email me at AwfulAnnouncing@gmail.com with 2nd Mock Draft as the subject because I get thousands of emails a day (actually because I'm lazy and Gmail search is very conducive to said laziness).

I hope you enjoy, and thanks to the jaw-dropping list below for your involvement.

I'm proposing a trade with Larry Brown: the #9 pick and legal advice for his Ki-Jana Carter jersey and the #18 pick

I'm setting the odds at 6/5 that someone tries to pick a player who has already been taken.

Dr Doom....you can have a pick in the 2nd round if you want it. Just send me an email.

Same goes for everyone/anyone else.

Apr 12, 2007, 2:16:00 PM

I see your 30/5 (6/1) and raise it to 1000/1. Now I just have to screw up myself.

Trading up in Pittsburgh? Is that like going from a 2 to a 4?

And a Dolphins fan drafting for the Bills? I call shenanigans.

With the trades and acquisitions made going into the draft, plus the bulk of the team that is carried over from last season, and the trades and draft picks made during the draft, it sure seems like the Pats are going to be the team to beat in the AFC this season, and perhaps in all of the NFL.

Considering the Pats were almost in the Superbowl last season with a pathetic receiving corps and that they've added very talented players into said receiving corps this season, barring some nasty injury(ies), they look to be the team to take it all.I say injury(ies) because I think they could survive an injury or two to some positions, but if they lost Brady they'd probably have a hard time recovering.

I wish I could say that the Redskins did well in the draft and/or in free agency but so many holes still exist that I'm not sure they'll be significantly better than last season. I suppose on face they should be if they can keep their corners healthy. With Landry (argh, hard to type that name as a Redskin!!) back there with a healthy secondary they might be able to cheat up more and put more pressure on opposing QBs. Might.

They still have what should be a lot of talent in the receiving positions, and Campbell should be better, but they don't have the quality on either line (offense or defense) that I wish they'd have, so it could be yet another year of .500 at best, or worse.

Still, the NFC East looks to be the NFC Least again this season. None of the teams there look like they'll be that good, and none really look ready to step up and take the division.
