Jaws Accuses Randy Moss Of Taking Plays Off
Friday, November 30, 2007
This item is a day old, but I figured I'd throw it up anyway. Ron Jaworski watches a TON of game film, and on Tuesday he saw something that maybe not everyone else did. Jaws claims Randy Moss is still taking plays off and coming from him we almost have to take that as gospel. Via The Boston Herald....
During a conference call with reporters yesterday, Jaworski, who will be in the booth for Monday night’s game between the Pats and Ravens in Baltimore, claimed he saw Moss slacking off at times when his number wasn’t called.I guess the big question is....Do you even care? I mean outside of Hines Ward and Ray Lewis don't most players take a down or two off??? This seems pretty insignificant to me, but media outlets are picking it up all over the place today (there was a segment devoted to it on First Take).
“Quite honestly, when I went through the tape, it was the first time that I was personally disappointed in a Randy Moss performance,” Jaworski said of the NFL’s leading receiver, who caught five passes for 43 yards in the 31-28 win against the Eagles. “I did not see the same energy on every single play that I had seen so far this season.
I belive Jaws when he says that Moss is loafing, but do you think anyone in New England cares at all?

when did they let Jiminy Glick back on the air?
Hey Jaws -- shut up! They don't need any more motivation, dammit!
Hines Ward is such a great blocker. He just loves blocking for his team. He is the best blocker that has ever blocked in the history of blocking. Did I mention he is an unparalleled blocker?
This would be news if it were five years ago and Merrill Hoge said it...wait.
Don't compare Hines and Ray. It hurts my soul.
makes my stomach hurt... did someone stab me?
AA I agree--I don't see it as a big deal given his production and his teams record. If it was back in Oakland then it would be a bigger issue.
Another dumb blogger falls for a promotional stunt, giving ESPN free publicity.
Just like the Dukie thing that never happened this week.
Brady responded and pretty much put Jaws in his place...

Yeah, this just in...Jaws watches a lot of tape. I've never heard him say that before.
Hey Jaws, how 'bout those three int's you threw to rod martin in super bowl xv. The polish jaws rifle just sucks.
This is almost a total non-story. ESPN tooks Jaws's comments on a few plays and, as we should expect from the Leader, blew it out of proportion. Did Moss not do his job on a couple plays? Yes, the tape shows it. Was it a Oakland- Raiders-Randy-Moss exhibition on rounding off routes. Absolutely not.
Tooks is probably not a word. Took.
Not really a big deal when the team is doing well and the player puts in legitimate effort most of the time.
Look at the way Sox fans treat Manny. Sure he doesn't run hard to first on groundouts, but they know when the chips are down, he will play his ass off. For the same reason, Pats fans trust Moss will do what he needs to when the time arises.
The same Jaws who thinks Jon Gruden is a great coach. Enough said on the validity of anything he says.
The Pats are 11-0, who cares if Randy Moss takes a few plays off? This is the same Randy Moss who no team would take for a 3rd or 4th round pick. Now he's the best WR in the NFL. Jaws can only wish he had a WR of Moss' pedigree during his days as Philly's QB.
16 TD catches > 4 or 5 plays he took off
So he takes a few plays off, what pro athlete doesn't in the course of a long season? The entire Knicks team took an entire GAME off! And I'm no Pats/Moss fan, enough already!
When you are making that much money you better be playing your ass off every play whether or not the ball is coming to you.
