American Gladiators Gets Re-Upped For Another Season

Monday, January 14, 2008

People trashed (myself included) the new American Gladiators unmercifully when it debuted earlier this month. The personalities are way over the top (see: Wolf), Hulk Hogan doesn't make sense, etc. etc. Even though there are now claims of it being rigged like wrestling the show continues pull good ratings and according to Variety via SbB it has been greenlit for another season.....

After just two original broadcasts, NBC has decided to order up another season of its "American Gladiators" revival.

New take on "Gladiators" bowed to the highest ratings of any new series this season, scripted or unscripted. It averaged a 5.9/14 among adults 18-49, and 12 million viewers overall. Skein's premiere in its regular Monday night slot last week also did very well.

Peacock isn't saying how many extra episodes of "Gladiator" it's ordered, or when the second season of the show will air. First season is slated to wrap in mid-February.
I have to admit that even though the show is ridiculous I caught myself watching almost an entire episode last night. I think I've come to the conclusion that Fury (above) is definitely a man. I'm just saying.

So the Writers are still on strike and they use American Gladiators for filler. Fine with me -- I'd rather watch it instead of actors worshiping each other. Problem is, the thing's aired twice and they air a rerun!

I watched that debacle last night. Not only are the "gladiators" way over the top but so are the contestants. You had the gymnastic coach with the mom that I could have sworn was a dude and you had that guy from Tenn. who felt like he had to keep dropping in a anecdote in every opportunity he could. I wanted to scream. The guys were worse actors then the guys in the WWE. And then at the end of the ELIMINATOR the guy from tenn conveniently fell and lost grip on the rope just long enough for the other guy to magically get enough strength to grap his rope and what was almost impossible for him seconds before, he did with ease that last little bit. And as for Ms. Ali......no comment.

"OWOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"--Wolf

I love that guy. But I'm extremely disappointed in Hellga. With a name, and large body, like that, she should kick much more ass.

Look for more of the women contestants to get interviewed coming out of the pool.

That writer's strike must be something awful. Or is it the state of American television?

@BBM:

Have you seen the many glut of reality shows copied from European TV or movies based on shows from the '60s & '70s?

@anon 8:20:

Are you trying to make being in late night Cinemax movies and shows a bad thing?

I guess the writers' strike isn't ending any time soon...

I think what makes the show bearable is the end. Watching those goofs exhaust themselves on the obstacle course at the end is hilarious.

And Belinda Gavin told us that she was just a stay-at-home and cowgirl or words to that effect. Oh, she suckered me in!

By the way, the talks resume next week. Good luck to all.
