Umm that's not his name Thom.

"That's quite a car, the Nissan Murano" -Thom Brennamen
"Kinda like a Knowshon Moreno. They've both got the same kind of pickup!" -Charles Davis
(Via Willmott)

"They were in the Sugar Bowl two years ago but had to play that in New Orleans because of Katrina" - Thom Brennaman
"Atlanta" - Charles Davis
(Via SS Reporters)

"We've talked about how Hawai'i has come back frequently this season - or at least a handul of times" - Thom Brennamen (Via Gibbon Jockey

"First Down for the Gators..."- Thom Brennaman (Via Anon)

"I can't believe they're spending this long on a challenge in a 38 to 3 game with 24 seconds to go in the third quarter."- Thom Brennamen

Amen Thom. This is ridiculous......it's been about 5 minutes and it's Midnight here on the East Coast.

"Plenty of people woke up looking like UGA this morning. Happy New Year, everyone!" - Thom Brennaman (Via S2N)

Hahaha....they're already naming the game's MVP.

"In Basketball, when know that's a technical and loss of posession. In Football, I just checked with Dave Katea the Supervisors of Officials for the Pac-10, it's no foul. It just gets waved off and you start the down again and play. That's why there was no flag."- Charles Davis

Again....if you don't know the rules. Please don't call the game. Doesn't everyone who watches Football know that the refs just don't acknowledge the player when they're calling a timeout?

"I tell you Charles, we've got 10 minutes left in this game."- Thom Brennamen

Thankfully Thom is wrong again. There's only 8 minutes left.

"Just bringing you back to the Sugar Bowl. Better than as 'War and Peace' because it will never end." - Scott Van Pelt (Via The Unreliable Narrator)

Ha....that about sums it up. Bonerama to you all and to all a good night. See you tomorrow for a full day of AA.

Fox has been awful at putting up replays for questionable, possibly-reviewable calls. I think I've seen two plays where it took the officials a while to give a signal, and Fox didn't show a good replay. For example, on that fumble by Georgia that was "recovered by Hawaii out of bounds"? They showed the fumble, but they didn't show the recovery clearly, partly because they wasted time with crowd shots.

And this is getting to be a boring game.

Even when the National Championship is in Pasadena in 2009....it's still FOX's due to the fact that ABC only has rights to the Rose Bowl.

I find the fact that Charles Davis said that a Georgia student completed 21 HOURS of classes to get his degree was funny.

Thom Brennaman: Big 10 Apologist

Sam said...
Jan 1, 2008, 11:37:00 PM

ok so Charles Davis and Thom Brennaman just took offense to Georgia fans' "over-rated" chant, but let's look at it objectively

if your team is:
Ranked in the Top 10
Invited to a BCS game you maybe didn't deserve because of your 130th ranked schedule
And getting blown out by 35 against the first decent team all year

I don't see a problem

Anonymous said...
Jan 1, 2008, 11:46:00 PM

@sam:

If all you've called all year are F-level games via the Big 10 Network (except App. State vs. Michigan), you'd tend to be a Big 10 apologist (the Dickie V theory).

Coincidentally, it's almost midnight and they haven't got to the 4th Quarter yet?

"I can not believe we are waiting this long on a challenge in a 38 to 3 game with 24 seconds to go in the 3rd quarter. I can't even believe there was a challenge to begin with." - Thom Brennamen

Jan 1, 2008, 11:59:00 PM

I cannot believe the 4th quarter hasn't start yet. This shit isn't ending until 2am.

"Plenty of people woke up looking like UGA this morning. Happy New Year, everyone!" - Thom Brennaman

Jesus, this fucking game takes forever. The coverage isn't going to end until 10 PM PST, I'm betting.

Signal to Noise said...
Jan 2, 2008, 12:04:00 AM

At this point, if UGA was USC, and if this game was on ABC and not Fox, then the announcers would be calling Georgia the best team in the country. By the way, Hawaii was ranked higher than Illinois. And Missouri looked pretty good too. Too bad ESPN thinks USC is the only team that got the shaft.

Anonymous said...
Jan 2, 2008, 12:04:00 AM

As if this game wasn't depressing enough Brennaman filling time with heartwarming tales of player's parents who are actually educated and still married "in a day and age where you don't see a lot of it" stings. I sure hope he's not as right as he thinks he is. But he probably is.

Anonymous said...
Jan 2, 2008, 12:28:00 AM

I just simply cannot stand Brennamen at all. He's like Buck 2.0.

Jan 2, 2008, 12:32:00 AM

I felt like I was writing for awful announcing (:-) ) as I wrote:

"Last night, Charles Davis made some mistakes in talking about UGA that will probably generate some mail from Georgia fans. No, not UGA as in the University of Georgia, but UGA as in the school mascot.

First, the mascot's name is UGA VI, not UGA the Sixth.

Second, UGA VI did not appear in Midnightin the Garden of Good and Evil. That was his father, UGA V.

Finally, Davis said that UGA VI is owned, he THINKS, by a man named Sonny Siler. No, that is not something you think, it is something that is a fact in University of Georgia lore.

So as Fox begins its 2008 BCS coverage, let's hope the more of their team did their full homework before they get on the air. It is not as if they did not have enough time."
