UCLA vs. Memphis (6:07pm)- Jim Nantz and Billy Packer (Spread: Memphis -2)
UNC vs. Kansas (8:47pm)- Jim Nantz and Billy Packer (Spread: UNC -4)

The Final Four is finally upon us and I'll once again be absent. I plan on making up for all the absences this Monday night though for the Open Thread to end all open threads. Until then...feel free to add your picks and our quotes in the comments and I'll piece through them tomorrow.

Enjoy the games! (Also is it weird to anyone else that the CBS team is New York still? Odd. Oh well.)

Picks:

Jay- UCLA and Kansas
Hubert- Memphis and UNC
Dick- UCLA and UNC
Bob- Memphis and UNC
Digger- Memphis and UNC
AA- Memphis and UNC

48 Comments:

I think the NFL Today stayed in New York for the AFC Championship game too. Is this some weird cost-cutting measure by CBS?

Yes. In the words of Kathleen Sullivan, CBS stands for the "Cheap Broadcasting System".

Ben Howland was just doing the shocker.

Or the "Matt Hardy V1" symbol. Where's his top MFer, Shannon Moore?

CBS has been axing jobs at its owned and operated stations left and right to save money. Dumb as it seems, this probably explains why Greg and Co. are in New York for the semis...a company mandate.

Also note to the NCAA: Never have Jim Nantz introduce the starting lineups over the public address again. He sucked the excitement out of the dome.

"Shawn Taggert, the graduate from Iowa State."-Billy Packer

I believe it's called a transfer, and if he graduated that's a for sure NCAA violation.

As much as I hated Nantz's opening, at the least those intro videos were awesome.

Leslie Visser is scary. WTF did Dick Stockton do to deserve waking up beside that halloween mask every morning?

Scott, some ladies age like fine wine. Others age like their husbands. Lesley Visser is the latter.

She aged like Joan Rivers or Mickey Rourke.

I got a good question, if Tiger Woods and Kevin Love both whipped it out at half-court which would Jim Nantz latch on to first?

So if you have concentration, then you can make free throws always?

Oh and Billy Packer F'ing SUCKS

I lvoe the Billy Packer self-pat on the back. He has to keep repeating the one suggestion he made that actually is used by a coach.

Billy is sending subliminal messages to Ben Howland. They're on the "same wavelength."

Scott said...

Uh-oh, Billy and Ben got some wires crossed. Billy doesn't want Collison back in.

What was with the team interview after the game, like they had won the whole thing? Can't remember them doing that for the semi-finals before.....

Does Billy Packer's head look EXTREMELY GREASY in HD?

Packer:"Collins is great. He's got a big upper body and loves to penetrate".

I believe it's called a transfer, and if he graduated that's a for sure NCAA violation.

Not necessarily - if he still had eligibility and was working on a graduate degree, he could still play. I can think of a couple of football players that did this last year (Ryan Mundy of WVU and Ben Mauk of Cincy)

On another note, for having four #1 seeds playing, these games are AWFUL.

7:32 left in the first half, and Billy Packer says it's over.

I'm off to go have a couple brews....

With 7:32 to go in the first half, Packer declares: "This game is over". I am sure CBS's sponsors appreciate this announcement. Billy, you're a dillweed.

If Billy Packer says the game is over with 27 minutes to play, that means we're about to see the biggest comeback in Final Four history.

I now want Carolina to come back and win just to shove it up Packer's ass.

Is it too late to give Cole Aldrich the Player of the Year award?

Scott said...
Apr 5, 2008, 9:37:00 PM

Tonight's entire broadcast is CBS at its bland, unoriginal "we're going to force-feed you 'Seth Davis of Sports Illustrated' until you believe he actually knows something about basketball" worst.

For what's been hyped as the greatest Final Four in history, the studio crew acts like it's a Sunday afternoon game in mid-January. And how many times do we have to watch the "game changing performance" clips?

Please, CBS, let Dick Enberg call the games and put Jay Bilas in the studio. Then, Jim Nantz can do the player introductions and run on along to Augusta . . .

Is anyone listening to this on Westwood One? There seems to be a large black man who is the worst color commentator I have ever heard. This guy sounds worse than Shannon Sharpe.

The best was after Packers' stupid f***ing comment. Nantz says, "Really, with 7:32 to go 1st half."

Then CBS went to their 90th commercial.

Classic.

Verne and Raftery would at least be fun to listen to - and call a good game. So even if you've got a couple of blow outs, it would be entertaining and not sterile.

The Zebras are letting the player go at it in the paint, but then you get the calls like the foul on Case or the highly questionable charges that Hansboro has been drawing.

Since Packer announed the game was over, UNC has gone on a 10-0 run. What a clown.

Evidentally Billy doesn't understand that KU for a long time has only had 1 post in the game.

Secondly KU is tired as they have had their bigs on the bench for about 10 minutes. Rush has been out and the second sub guard broke his knee yesterday.

Is he even watching the game?

Anyone notice how INSANE Billy Donovan is tonight? Guy needs a Valium or two:

Bill Donovan insane tonight

And I'm still waiting for Bill Self's toupee to leap off his head and onto Billy Packer's vacant dome.

How can Packer say that UNC never started playing well, but got in the game only because Kansas got sloppy? UNC started the 2nd half shooting 60%! What a pompous ass-hat.

anyone notice how little emotion Bob Knight shows in their whole break down on ESPN? He just sits there with a pissed off look on his face, and doesn't smile or laugh at anything. Everyone else is laughing and he just looks irritated. It's high quality humor

He (knight) probably doesn't show any emotion because he is getting tired of Dick and Digger touching him during the whole broadcast..

During halftime of the Kansas-UNC game, the in-studio production crew did a, ahem, splendid job of putting Clark Kellogg on camera when he was going over the nominees for the Naismith award...
