Usain Bolt Sets Another WR In 200 Meter Final
Wednesday, August 20, 2008
I'm all for Michael Phelps and patriotism, but this kid from Jamaica is just off the charts fast. Usain Bolt just set a new world record in the 200-Meter Final with a 19.30 beating the previous record time of 19.32 by Michael Johnson. USA's Wallace Spearmon finished third but was disqualified for running out of his lane, so Shawn Crawford (also of the U.S.) took the bronze in his place. Churandy Martina of the Netherlands-Antilles finished second in 19.82 and was never even close to Bolt.
I've also never been more pissed in my life that NBC didn't show it live online just to save it for primetime tonight. It's my mission now to find the video and post it here. If you see it online please let me know.
Update: BBC's feed....

Yes Yes. Sorry, I was reading through the times and confused myself somehow. Found the video and it's coming shortly.

Here you go with english commentary. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVKxblhsW_4
NBC pisses me off for extending its coverage of events that already happen instead of showing stuff that is still going on. booooo.
yep. that was a childish boo.
nice spoiler, guess i don't need to watch tonight.
Here's a video of Michael Johnson reacting after the 100m

He has to be doping.
td1981, are you serious? EVERY outlet is giving away results in real time. Get over it.

"HE'S...*huff, puff*HE'S THE FASTEST...THE FASTEST KID ALIVE!"
Gotta be the shoes...
i love the 'i'm pissed at nbc' backlash. with a few exceptions, nobody out east stuck up for us on the west coast during the first week (swimming and gymnastics). now nbc is doing it to the rest of the country, how does it feel?

I have never been more freakin pissed that NBC didn't show this live.. gimme a freakin break! I woke up just to see the race.. thanks for doing this.. screw the peacock!
Neunzehn ein und dreizig! . . . Das ist unglaublich.
Wow.
really bugs me that some people have to jump on the he must be doping ,idiots. bolt has a very unique sprint style and his stride length is huge compared to the other sprinters because he is very tall .
long legs + fast leg speed = insane speed compared to short stumpy body building guys.
watched it live and all i can say is O..M...G that is what i call domination.
AA, I give you enough grief on this site. But I have to take my hat off to you on this. Congrats on a) finding the video; and b) keeping it from being deleted. Well done.
Even CNNSI.com is linking a video at this point. Which is great.
One thing for sure is that you rearly find jamaican based athlete taking drugs. In the past Jamaicans have lost many meadals to other country whose athletes have tested positive. Thank God he has been tested and he is clean. So all genuine athletics fans enjoy the natural talent of all our sprinters. JAMAICA TO THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AA another update both Spearmon and Matilda from the Antillies were both disqualified making Crawford the silver medalist and Dix the Bronze.
PS I saw the event live also due to the CBC. Thank you CBC
Him-pressive and out of this world. Im a jamaican visiting in the US and if it was not for BBC i would have to wait until primetime,BS. thanks BBC.
AA we saw this live in Jamaica followed by Walker's win in the 400 hurdles. Listen man you have no idea how proud we are here in Jamrock.
But I have to take issue with your dubbing our Bolt the Caribbean Cheetah - too close to another negative word, much as I respect the witty alliteration I prefer the Caribbean Puma.
Whatever, Bolt is just incredible. What a show he gave to Beijing!
This is like those Powerade commercials with Lebron hitting full court shots or Vick throwing footballs out of the stadium...except it's real.
Unbelievable!

Wasn't Michael Johnson's world record time 19.32, from the 1996 games?
