Visa Puts Together "Congratulations Phelps" Commercial In Record Time

Wednesday, August 13, 2008

Okay so this was long in the works, and created quite some time ago, but I still found it pretty wild. Visa had a spot reserved in the first commercial block after the 200 Meter Butterfly, so when Michael Phelps earned his 10th career gold medal they were ready to congratulate him on his achievement....

Man, Morgan Freeman could sell me just about anything. Thank goodness he's okay after that car crash because that ad would have given me even more chills if he hadn't. The crazy part of the whole story surrounding the ad though comes from Phelps' agent. According to Sports Business Daily, Octagon's Peter Carlisle thought this whole spot up back in 2006 at the Pan-Pacific Championships! Now that's a good agent.

uggggh. These personalized commercials are so tedious. This isn't so bad, but it still leaves a bad taste. The Happy New baby, Tiger commercials from Nike were the worst. Blech.

When's the last time the most popular man in the entire world was someone from Maryland?

I'm not sure but it's pretty sweet.

Morgan Freeman should be recording narration for something in his every waking moment. That voice is hypnotizing.

Am I the only one that thinks calling Phelps the greatest Olympian ever is a bit unfair?? Swimmers get to compete in more events than most other athletes. Sure, he's dominant and definitely the best swimmer ever, but he's got all his golds because there are so many swimming events. I'm sure there have been many other Olympians who were completely unbeatable in their events but only could compete in one or two of them every 4 years!!
