Dan Patrick Will Be Everywhere In A Few Short Weeks
Thursday, November 08, 2007
Dan Patrick's radio program has been slow going at the start at picking up affiliates, but apparently that's about to change. The Chicago Sun-Times is estimating that the former ESPN Radio Host will rack up 100 affiliates by January...
It's official: Dan Patrick's new syndicated talk show has been picked up by CBS Radio sports/talk WSCR-AM (670).100 affiliates in a few months is pretty darn impressive, but that puts him only halfway to Jim Rome's 200. I don't know why someone wouldn't want to pick them both up and add a few local shows as bookends. That would probably cost an arm and a leg though.
Starting next week, the show will air on tape delay from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Monday through Friday. Patrick's interviews will be accessible earlier in the day on the Score's Web site at: www.670thescore.com.
Patrick's new syndicated show debuted Oct. 1. It's on track to land 100 affiliates by January.

It wouldn't cost much.
Virtually ALL sports programming is done on a barter basis.
Network sells commercials, network gives us the show, we let the network run their commercials on our station (3-7 minutes per hour).
Patrick's show COULD charge, but judging by the fact that they are gaining affiliates I'd say that's very unlikely.
KLAC 570 has Patrick in the morning with Rome at lunchtime. It is indeed a lifesaver at work.
That's Southern California, by the way.
I'd be shocked if the show isn't being distributed via barter. Strangely, there isn't a list of affiliates readily available online.
DP and Romey together?? I'd rather listen to 12 straight hours of Stu Scott poetry slams.
I talk to affiliate guys all the time.... but no one from the Patrick show has ever even tried to send me any sales kits or anything.
SPORTSbyBROOKS has a take I'd agree with:

my question is who the hell is going to tune into sports radio reruns at 10 PM? By then the stories are old, not to mention there is live sports to watch

People who can't afford prescriptions for Lunesta and Rozerem, especially with DP's delivery.
Who gives a fuck?....
Wow, 100 affiliates. That's better than the penetration of the NFL Network after five years.
Rome and DP together would be a boner for the ears.
