Your MLB Announcing Schedule For The Weekend

Another weekend with not a whole lot of variation. At least we get the Angels though, who we haven't seen much this year, and not the Red Sox. On a side note, I have yet to see a Leo Mazzone game this year. Anyone have any thoughts on him as an analyst they'd like to share?

Philadelphia Phillis at St. Louis Cardinals

Ms. Diller was surprised to hear she moved to Philly.

The game I watched with Leo Mazzone (Indians-Twins?) was nothing more than a three-hour "When you were a pitching coach with the Braves, what would you do?" session. Eh.
Since Fox likes to same money on the third-tier broadcast, why couldn't they have had Hawk & DJ do the game? I would pay money to see them try being non-partisan.

"...Due to MLB restrictions, tomorrow's Tigers-Rays game will be joined in progress @ 7:06 on FSN Detroit."

?????

Is this a new rule, just instituted on August 1st? The Rays have had all their Saturday home games start at 6pm, and I know I remember two Saturdays ago the Jays-Rays game was shown at 6 in its entirety on CBC over-the-air. Even White Sox-Rays games have started on WGN at 6 in the past with no problems. Am I off-base?

There was a 6 PM Rays game against the Orioles a month or two back where we fans in Baltimore weren't able to watch until 7:00 either. This was the first year anything like that's happened that I can remember.

Makes perfect sense - we all know all the Detroit fans care more about the Angels and Yankees anyway.

Earlier, I meant to say Since Fox likes to save money.

"...Due to MLB restrictions, tomorrow's Tigers-Rays game will be joined in progress @ 7:06 on FSN Detroit."

Why would I want to watch that game when the Rays will already have a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd?

Dummkopf Award #1: Forcing a local-team telecast to join a game in progress. If Fox and CBS did that with the NFL they'd hear from the league office pretty quick.

Dummkopf Award #2: Fox not sending White Sox-Royals to most of the country, not even to Cincinnati or Seattle. Ken Griffey Jr. is now with the ChiSox.

Justin Speier just introduced the Angels lineup in the character of Mike Tyson: cutoff t-shirt, fake tattoo on his face, high-pitched voice, and everything. That was greatness.

Speier's efforts, as great as they are, can't overcompensate for the people who look like they're reading a ransom note with a gun behind their back. Sorry, Goose.

Nice analysis by Karros on the Casey Kotchman at-bat just now in the 4th. After a couple ball outside, he starts questioning why Sabathia would throw outside to Kotchman, railing "he's inviting Kotchman to go the other way... that's what he does, go the other way... he's not gonna go up there and jerk something..." He even started affecting a high-pitched, nerdy sounding front-office stats egghead voice and derisively said something like "somewhere there's a chart that says you should always throw him outside" and, of course, Kotchman reaches for a slider outside and pulls it weakly on the ground to 1B for an easy put-out. Outstanding!

I just got done watching the game with Kenny Albert and Leo Mazzone and Mazzone talked about himself coaching the whole time and had a different opinion than what the umpire called on every play... Nobody cares what he thought the play should have been, the umpire called it that way so leave it... it was the first time watching a game with him announcing and it was TERRIBLE!!! Leo Mazzone Sucks!!

I guess I watched a different game than keith, but I thought Mazzone's observations were mostly accurate and he has the reputation to back up what he says. It was especially nice to hear good things said about the Royals for a (sort of) national audience for once.

FSN Detroit was better served showing the remaining 24 minutes of "In My Own Words: Nate Robertson" or "MMA: Two Countries, 1 Cup" again instead of that latest Tigers abomination. At least I have the Lions & Michigan football to look forward to. Wait, what?

Aug 2, 2008, 10:45:00 PM

I didn't say that he wasn't correct Im just saying that it got old because he voiced his opinion on every play. Maybe it's just me but I think its annoying for an announcer to say over and over again what he thought the play should have been when its obvious the umpire got it right or wrong it doesnt matter what he thought the play was the umpire makes the call not him.
GO ANGELS and ROYALS!!!!

The White Sox/Rays game was joined in progress at 6:15 central time a few weeks ago and it was on Comcast not WGN. Then CSN replayed the game from the start following the postgame show.

You may be right on the JIP, anonymous 7:12, but this 2008 schedule says White Sox/Rays was on WGN.
