The MLB Network Hires Some More People

Wednesday, November 12, 2008

Slowly but surely this whole MLB Network is getting put together, and it's really starting to look like a pretty good roster. While they're still trying to lock up Costas, the Network will announce today the hiring of four new analysts. Via SBD....

MLB Network today officially will add Al Leiter, Harold Reynolds, Trenni Kusnierek and Hazel Mae to its on-air lineup today. The network will use Leiter and Reynolds as studio analysts and Kusnierek and Mae as reporters. Leiter comes to the channel after three years at YES Network, and Reynolds had been a commentator on MLB.com, SportsNet NY and TBS in the past year. Kusnierek spent last season with the Brewers on FSN Wisconsin, following five seasons with the Pirates on FSN Pittsburgh. Mae had spent five years with NESN.
Mae and Reynolds weren't surprises, but I hadn't heard about Leiter (who's actually pretty good) and Kusnierek. Look for a few more people to put added in the coming weeks, and then perhaps a bigger name more towards the network's opening day on January 1st.

I think that MLB Network logo is horrible.

Trenni is a good hire. Nice to look at and knows her stuff.

She's decent looking and a Wisconsin girl so I root for her. Sometimes her voice got on my nerves though.

Now all they have to do is hire Rod Allen & Darrin Jackson and their on-air roster will be complete.

Ms. Kusnierek called out Erin Andrews last summer for dressing like a skank. That would be hilarious if not for baseball's history of anti-woman conduct.

My favorite Al Leiter moment is when he was doing a game with Michael "The idiot" Kay.

Kay goes: "Look at these splits, Al, when Andy Pettite pitches out of the windups his ERA is under 1, but out of the stretch it's over 4."

Al Leiter just goes: "Mike, the only time Pettite comes from the windup is with nobody on. All that means is that he doesn't allow too many solo homers."

Michael Kay: "Yeah, but...still..."

Leiter isn't leaving YES. He'll be splitting time between them and MLB Network.
