NFL Open Thread - Week 3 Early Games

Sunday, September 21, 2008

Antonio Pierce and Plaxico Burress are ready to smoke up the Bengals.

Today is a CBS doubleheader day; if you'd like to check again which games you're getting, refer back to the Week 3 Maps post. Here are the 1pm games with announcers.

As usual, leave your comments, bitches and gripes about any games you have in the comments. Since I'm on the West Coast, I'll be checking on Raiders-Bills, which, despite Oakland, I kind of want to watch because Buffalo appears to be good this year.

CBS:
Cincinnati at NY Giants - Greg Gumbel, Dan Dierdorf
Houston at Tennessee - Kevin Harlan, Rich Gannon
Kansas City at Atlanta - Gus Johnson, Steve Tasker
Miami at New England - Ian Eagle, Solomon Wilcots
Oakland at Buffalo - Don Criqui, Dan Fouts

FOX:
Arizona at Washington - Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnson, Tony Siragusa
Tampa Bay at Chicago - Sam Rosen, Tim Ryan
Carolina at Minnesota - Ron Pitts, Tony Boselli

I think the Houston TV affiliate is trying to spare us in Houston even more agony as they started out showing us Giants/Bengals.

Unfortunately, they've now decided to switch over to Texans/Titans.

The Bills are playing down to the Raiders. At least it seems that way. Trent Edwards can't get a drive going and right now, Oakland's stable of stud running backs are rushing on 'em something fierce.

The computer feed is working, and Texans-Titans just got me a LenDale White touchdown. (Started both him and Chris Johnson).

I just clicked by ESPN during a football commercial (Another day of Infomercials at 1 p.m. on CBS) and ESPN was doing a phone interview with Jeffrey Maier, I just clicked back to check his name spelling and this thing has gone on 10+ min.

After screaming curses at the TV for about 5 minutes, I decided ESPN won't be watched all day long, even for the game if the local coverage has it.

But yeah, S2N, I listened to the Leader this morning and decided to sit White in favor of Sammy Morris... I forgot how dumb it is to listen to their experts.

A phone interview with Jeffrey Maier? Really?

I know Yankee Stadium is historically important to the game of baseball in ways other stadia aren't, but Jesus H. Christ, that's overkill.

Oh, and the Chiefs are every bit as lousy as you'd expect them to be. They'll be drafting first in 2009. It's 17-0 Falcons right now.

Christ, I'm embarrassed to be a Chiefs fan right now. I now know what Dolphin fans were going through last year.

And Kyle Orton is trying his hardest to get benched by throwing directly to the numbers of an opposing player...

I have Steve Slaton on my fantasy team. Last night, after talking to my brother, I picked up Darren Sproles, and started Sproles.

I know it's early, but: why the hell did I do that?

Oakland-Buffalo: this game is awkward. Raiders get really good field position for most of the day and they can't get in the end zone.

Marshawn Lynch is awesome, but you all knew that already.

Janikowski just upped his 3rd FG. 9-7, Raiders.

Plus side: at least Housh is doing SOMETHING this week.

Sep 21, 2008, 2:18:00 PM

Michael Turner just scored again.

24-0, Falcons.

I'm thinking 5.5 was too generous a spread for the Chiefs.

Bonus Ryder Cup coverage:
Johnny Miller just referred to Robert Karlsson as "The Hot Karlsson"

Also: New England is fucking up my suicide pick, big time.

I can't remember the last time Miami was ahead of the Pats by this much.

Miami beat New England a couple of years ago, 21-0. It was the last time the Patriots lost a regular season game.

Still, this "21-6" stuff is very confusing to me.

The Raiders Bulls game marks the very first time i've seen Don Criqui and i expected him to have black hair
but he does a decent job at calling the games

Bruce Smith is very soft-spoken. He's in the booth with Criqui and Fouts. This surprises me for some reason.

The Neckbeard hit Matt Forte for a TD pass and then Brandon Lloyd on the 2-point conversion.

17-14, da Bears.

Cardinals tie it up and the media collective ejaculates. They love their Cardinals you know.

Ronnie Brown stole Marshawn Lynch's BEAST MODE.

4 rushing TDs, 117 yards, one TD passing. That's at least 45 points if you have him starting fantasy today, I think.

Direct Quote from Kenny Albert in the 3rd Quarter, Cardinals-Redskins game.

Washington is driving down the field, for what would be the go-ahead score wtih tied game at 10-10.

"Wow, the crowd is really getting into it, looks like they must have got something good to eat during Halftime."

Simply stunning.

Can anybody explain to me how Gus Johnson gets relegated to the Chiefs/Falcons game? What an underutilized asset for CBS Sports. Shame.

I never thought I'd say it, but shouldn't ESPN have bowling on?

I just keep clicking past out of habit, and keep throwing up a little.
