The White Sox Dive Head First Into October

Tuesday, September 30, 2008

Man that was a heck of a game. Sure it was low scoring, and a pitching duel, but the crowd at the Cell made every out and every pitch that much more intense. Here's the way it ended and if you haven't seen it yet....I won't ruin it for you (just don't read below until after you watch)....

Sure walkoffs are amazing, but a great defensive play like that with a relatively fast runner up....takes a ton of balls. We're glad to have you White Sox, and Chicago is going to be rockin' this October.

As a New Yorker, seeing 2 teams each from Chicago and LA in the playoffs is a sad, sad thing.

Announcing team was solid tonight, but only cause HR made it good. Stockton may need to retire, soon. As for Darling, solid as usual.

Let me be the first to say: @#$%!

Also of interest: MTSU just hit a 35-yard TD pass on 4th down with :00 on the clock, down 13-7. Waiting for the PAT ...

As I was listening to tonight's Sox-Twins game ESPNradio and watching TBS muted but with the captions, I saw that the Red Sox were leading 1-0.

Stockton may need to retire, soon.

Joe "Bauer" and "AG" Pierzynski agree.

Man, I the AG thing was killing me. Why doesn't a producer correct him after the 7th or 8th time?

@zabka:

The last time Stockton trusted a TV producer, Rosario Dawson caught the game-winning TD for the Panthers, not Dante Rosario.

He also got the first pitch of the bottom of the top of the first wrong....and

is it me or did they NEVER establish that was MAYOR DALEY in the stands because they kept showing him at the end.

Dick Stockon is awful.

I'm very disappointed he's calling the only series I'm interested in.

I liked how there was 1 out in the 9th of a 1-0 game and instead of letting the drama build Stockton thought that would be a good time to thank everyone in the truck and behind the scenes. Can't that wait?

The "legendary" Dick Stockton needs to join other legends and retire. He's awful, in all sports (baseball, football, and basketball). "Legend" or not, I can't stand him. As far as the game goes, while it doesn't come close to matching last year's tiebreaker game, it was a good game and damn, that was one intense crowd.

And now we've got both LA teams, both Chicago teams, and no New York teams. I laugh at both of them.

Are we going to be having any live blogs or open threads tomorrow for the start of the MLB playoffs?

Wow I thought I was the only one hearing "AG" Pierzynski!

I really wanted Minnesota in there instead of Chicago, but that was a great game.

I believe it was Stockton, but maybe someone else who said, "Mauer bats about .450 in batting practice!"

Stockton was awful. When Griffey was lifted for a pitch runner in the 7th inning, Stockton goes "and Griffey will be lifted by a pitch hitter." Between that and messing up names and everything else, i'm just glad that he isn't doing the red sox series. Although the Rays/White Sox are lucky to have Orsillo/HR doing their series

Chicago will be rocking this month...only until the 7th inning. Thanks, Corrupt Mayor Daley!

Hey, let's give Stockton a little benefit of the doubt here, he hasn't called baseball on a regular basis in decades.

Wait, never mind, it's Dick Stockton. Good as he was, he's not bringing his A, B, or even C game to the booth. And his style these days makes me think he graduated from the William Shatner School of Pause Speaking.

Cubs- Rod Blagoavich, Jim Belushi, John Cusack

White Sox- Mayor Dailey, Baraack Obama, Jesse Jackson

As a Chicago fan and admitted conservative, who do I root for?

@ anon - how about you forget about everyone else who likes the the teams that you do and root for the team/organiztion that you want to succeed the most. Or root for an all Chicago World Series and be happy with whomever wins then. As an admitted liberal and Philadelphia fan, I don't care who else likes the teams that I like.

There's nothing better in the playoffs than a taut, tense 1-0 game where the players know every play could swing the season so they have to go balls to the wall. I'll take that over an 8-7 game that's decided by the 9th and 10th pitchers on the staff any day.

By the way....Dick Stockton is to announcing what Enrico Pallazzo is to the Star Spangled Banner.
