Mike Golic Addresses His Son's Arrest On Mike & Mike This Morning

Monday, September 22, 2008

PFT had an item late last night that Notre Dame Freshman, and son of ESPN Radio's Mike Golic, Mike Golic Jr. was arrested at 2am yesterday morning along with forty other people at an off-campus party. This is something that I thought ESPN, and the host would choose to ignore this morning, but Golic addressed the situation right before the nine o'clock hour....

This is College after all, and if kids are going to drink it's good that no one was doing so while driving. It was also good for Golic to address it and in a way that didn't embarrass his son.

Yeah I'm with you AA. It's College and things happen. Hopefully he'll learn from the mistake and start using plastic solo cups.

Off-topic but if you could make the "Create the Caption" pic today be any shot of Bill Belichick yesterday that'd be great.

Good for Golic, he didn't need to address it all but diffused it anyway.

Kids drink at college...no big deal.

When did it become an accepted fact that all 18-year old kids attending college drink? Sure, some do, but not all, especially kids attending a Catholic university. To me this is like believing the most college age girls appear in Girls Gone Wild videos.

I go to college. We all drink. There might be four people that don't. I wish all the girls at my school would appear in Girls Gone Wild as much as they drink. That would be pretty sweet. Those numbers probably aren't that close though.

Haha, dude, us Catholics drink as much, if not more, than you do.

My college, that has a good reputation academically, has a reputation of being a drinking school and it is really not a big deal even if we are underaged. I will not think less of the elder or junior Golic b/c of this incident. Honestly who cares if Notre Dame is this "strict" Catholic school?

Please, us Catholics have religious services that feature wine as the blood of Christ, of course we drink a lot. Unless Golic Jr. proves to be nothing more than a legacy and gets academic probation than I do not think he should be criticized for getting caught with a Guinness.

It was fine until Greenberg went overboard with his lavish praise of little Golic. I'd like to see if they reacted this way before about similar alcohol-related incidents. If not, they would come across as hypocrites.

Yeah, I don't see this as a story even. The kid got an alcohol citation. He gets a $75 fine and a few hrs of community service.

@bentcorner: It is an accepted fact that all 18-year old kids in college drink. Most 18-year olds not in college drink. There are a select few at my college that don't, but as far as the people I know, it surely isn't the Catholic ones.

Now let this had been somebody at Penn St getting in trouble, this would have been a big deal or been on the ticker but one of their own employee sons gets in trouble and not a word from the "leader".

Isn't one of the charges against the other football player for driving drunk on an on campus sidewalk?

You all are crazy. Catholics drink during Sunday Service.

best way to put it, when was the last time you heard about football players getting caught for underaged drinking?
It's the drugs, guns, and sexual services that gets athletes in trouble not the parties.
SBPD goes around patrolling party neighborhoods instead of cracking down on the local crime. Quick tickets and they don't have to get their hands dirty. Gotta love the local fuzz.

@Bazooka Jones - It's not an accepted fact that ALL 18-year old kids in college drink. Just because you and perhaps everyone you know drank alcohol when they were only 18 doesn't prove that everyone does it.

For years now I've heard about how Notre Dame student-athletes are better people then the student-athletes at other campuses. If that's true, I would expect them at the very least to adhere to their own student Code of Conduct that prohibits underage drinking.

Golic not only makes excuses for his kid, he agrees with Greenburg that his kid is the kind of kid you pray your kid will be like.

Really?

All college kids drink or drank in college, the difference is when you're paying your own way, you can do what you want. If someone is paying for you to go there, (i.e. full ride scholarship) you need to be smarter.

IT WAS NICE FOR GOLIC TO COMMENT WHEN HE DIDN'T HAVE TO UNTIL ALL THE FACTS WERE PRESENTED. THAT BEING SAID-- NOT CONDEMING UNDERAGE DRINKING @ HIS ALMA MATER REGARDING HIS SON, NOT EMBARRASSING HIM, BUT POINTING THE FACT OUT SHOULD'VE BEEN SOMETHING ADDRESSED--YOU DON'T CONDONE SOMETHING THAT VIOLATES THE LAW I.E "IT'S COLLEGE" JUST 'CAUSE YOUR FAMILY IS INVOLVED .
