Kat DeLuna Gets Booed By Cowboys Fans After Butchering The Anthem

Monday, September 15, 2008

Pop/R&B artist Kat DeLuna was your singer for the National Anthem before the Eagles-Cowboys game and her is her performance in all its booing goodness....

I'd love to say I feel bad for her but with all of the extra scales and noises she really just brought it on herself. You have to be seriously bad to get booed after the National Anthem.

As a fellow performer, You DO NOT add so many embellishments to this song that it is indistiguishable as our national anthem!! It just goes to show that just b/c you're a "pop sensation" doesn't mean you're good! She needs to stop watching MTV and work on her pitch.

It's one thing to add one or two runs in the song...but every line...no. A few years ago, I was at an Orlando Predators game, where Aaron Carter (yeah, not even the more famous Backstreet Boy one) sang the National Anthem...and was booed quite bad.

PS>Who said she was a "pop sensation" I mean, if that's what we're calling a pop sensation now, Brooke Hogan must be an icon or something.

Fans are there to watch a football game, not sit through a 10 minute someone's rendition of our national anthem.

Sing the song as its normal non-stylized rate so we can honor america and then get to the kickoff!

They weren't booing, they were saying de Loooona.

Seriously, they should just play the music and let the fans sing.

Coolest NA moment I've ever experienced was at a Colts game where they had some local artist singing the anthem and the audio cut out and come to find out, the fans were singing the NA and THAT was so freakin' cool and made me proud.

First of all I would like to say that she is a wonderful talented performer. Have you ever heard her sing before other than the national anthem? This girl has talent...dont compare her with britney spears....she aint even close to her,no disrespect towards britney. It is the first time she is performing the national anthem in front of millions of people and viewers on TV for America. I bet she felt nervous and overwhelmed being up their having to perform the anthem and represent Americans....the ones criticizing should get their ass up there and do it themselves...let's see how well ya would sound.

She was horrible. She is another creation. Keep her back in the studio so they can digitize her voice and then let her lip synch on tour to the fake voice. She and her promoters need to apologize and offer that she will join Milli Vanilli on the shelf. Respect the NA and sing it like you know this great country, that this NA represents, deserves to be done so with reverence. Pick up a history book versus Us or People and appreciate the sacrifices made and then go sing the NA.

It's bad enough that they never show the National Anthem being played before sporting events anymore, when they do though it's always done poorly by some "pop star" more to do with being cross-marketed than actually paying honor to our country.
The NFL is a damn disgrace.

i hate when "celebrities" use the anthem as a showcase of their talent and vocal ability. it's not supposed to be a show. adapt the song to your vocal skils, but don't turn it into a showcase. the song isn't about you, don't make it about you.

Anonymous said...
Sep 23, 2008, 4:41:00 PM

pro sports in general makes a habit of showcasing talent when the anthem is played, it's not just the NFL. there was a time when it was an honor to sing the anthem, not a marketing opportunity.

Her voice is pretty good, but her pitch was absolutely awful. You can't be a good singer by voice alone, and nobody with those many pitch problems should even try to attempt any notes other than the original... especially for the National Anthem.

It wasn't downright wretched, but it certainly wasn't up to par. Pitchy in a lot of spots, and everyone is right..she did get a little overtly dramatic with the hand gesture, head nod, grunting, etc. People have to realize that there are certain individuals who can pull off singing on that caliber. Clearly she is not one of them. =P

I have heard the National Anthem when there was a key change but not like this! She totally lost the key she started in toward the end AND was flat throughout.

Anyone who's not only gonna boo a young performer, but someone honoring the country by singing the song (how many Americans don't even know all the words) to begin with, is so much further off pitch than she was on just a few notes. Try encouraging rather than sitting at your pc's criticizing everything you don't/can't/shouldn't/wouldn't or couldn't do yourselves.

Anonymous said...
Sep 23, 2008, 4:57:00 PM

Those who are booing her, have never been to a Bucks game at the Bradley Center. People mentioned extra notes, Streetlife and Joe Jordan end up putting in so many extra notes and stuff that it doesn't really sound like the anthem and the worst of it is that no one in that band can really sing and only a few people ever clap for them and yet they remain our crappy house band.

I say the Eagles and the Cowboys got off easy because she won't be coming back game after game.

The best rendition of the anthem I heard at a professional game was from Terry Wilson at a couple of the Bucks games. I think she was the wife of one of the assistant coaches we had at the time. I haven't heard anyone to do that song justice the way that she did, because I can still remember how her voice gave me chills during that song because she was so good. That's what the anthem is supposed to do, give you chills when you hear it. But those so called "artists," take all the feeling out of it because it seems like just another song to them.

Why can't professional sports venues just stick to simplicity? I clap the hardest for the person who sings it straight, simple, quick and can carry a tune, the way it was meant to be sung.

Our national anthem is the one song you don't take liberties (no pun) with. These flash-in-the-pan pop singers are so self absorbed they think everything they do is genius. Forget artistic license - this isn't karaoke. There is only one way to sing The Star Spangled Banner and that's in the key, pitch and cadence it was composed in. That was embarrassingly awful.

Cute, and not HORRIBLY bad, but she shouldn't add so many embellishments to it. It ruins the song, and shows disrespect. Also, she needs to learn how to sing a capella OR get someone to play the notes for her while she's singing. I'm a musician.

they were not booing her. The booing clearly starts at the end and is very loud, coinciding with the visiting (and much hated) Eagles coming out of the tunnel. It is just a coincidence that it is at the end of the song. I didn't hear any booing during it.

Was at the game and they absolutely were booing her. The eagles were lined up on the sideline already so they were not taking the field. The foreign flags were because the NFL was celebrating Mexican something or other and they had flags from all the mexican countries like Dominican Rebublic, Puerto Rico, etc and they got a mexican singer from Puerto Rico to sing. That's what happens when you don't buy American.

I might not have taken shrapnel but I did serve 6 years. Sing it for the nation and for those in harms way. My Dad taught me young to respect it. You stand, remove your hat and for that minute or two focus on what the song means. I heard it sung on the deck of an aircraft carrier as a sailor's remains were surrendered to the sea. If the singer can't understand what that feels like they shouldn't be singing it. When it's sung straight I still choke up. When you pimp it up you disrespect those who have served and those who are serving. It's about the blood of those who died not promoting yourself. If you don't understand that it is more than notes and words then politely decline the invitation.

I think there's more respect an admitting that you can't give the song justice and so you'd rather not be chosen for it. They should have known better than to have put her up there too. With all that said. There is one thing that is bugging me more than the topic of Kat and the anthem. Someone commented this:

"Was at the game and they absolutely were booing her. That's what happens when you don't buy American."

Now..why hasn't anyone corrected this person already? I'm sorry who ever you are but you're not very bright. Open up a map of the world and you might be amazed at what you find.

Wow, this comment is too funny. Cant imagine why the world thinks American are stupid.
The rendition was not that bad, not to boo, Dallas fans are retarded.
Why are there so many ignorant, racist comments being posted about this? Lets not forget it was a British man who wrote that poem that later became our national anthem.

I have to agree ...why the hell is there ANY foreign flag on the field during our national anthem? AND as for the idiot singing just more proof of pop musics "no talent/more money generation"

The crowd did not boo her. They booed the eagles as they came onto the field.

This is why they shouldn't even have the national anthem at sporting events. People can sing it to themselves if they care that much. Nationalism is wack anyway.

do yee not find it disrespectful for someone to do a mariah carey style singing of your anthem, warbling all over the place, theres one way to sing every anthem,if some unknown pop 'sensation' did that to my anthem she'd have to mke tracks out the stadium pretty quickly

I don't think it was THAT bad--seemed like a lot of that vibrato was an attempt to cover up nerves. At any rate, it's always in poor taste to "boo" someone that has put so much effort into a performance, no matter how bad the end result is.

But then, Dallas fans have never been renown for their class.
