Monday Night Football Week Three Live-Blog: 2nd Half

Monday, September 22, 2008

The Chargers look to be in control of this one, but again...this is the Chargers. They'll figure out a way to blow the lead. It's their ball to start the half though and they'll start the quarter from their own 20.

People like Tony at ESPN are so out of touch with fans. He always says "people want to hear about Favre" but the 'people' he refers to are other writers, reporters, and suits at ESPN, not real fans. Fans just want to watch football. (Via Jay)

Why are there Ryder Cup highlights in the Most Annoying 3 Minutes? (Via JFein)

Could someone help me out with the coin flip result? It's one of my many prop bets heads or tails and I can't find the result anywhere. I never would have thought that the Internet would deny me any knowledge of any kind. Stupid Internet! (Via Anon)

Wish I could. I know the Jets won it, so it was on their call. If anyone could help do so in the comments?

10:15- Sproles with back-to-back nice plays and the Chargers have a first and goal....

TOUCHDOWN LdT! 38-14 Chargers and unless Kornheiser pulls a Billy Packer, this one is ovah!

Tony and Mike start talking about hotel rooms and this game is sure to get even more ugly now that we have a blowout on our hands. Jets down 24 decided to run the ball now....that's good.

If somehow F**** brings the Jets back in this one I am canceling my cable service. (Via Wumpa)

I think you're safe tonight. I say that right as Favre hits Coles in Charger territory.

"It's no fun out here tonight and the traffic in New Jersey is killing me."- Tony Kornheiser channeling Favre

Cotchery takes it inside the 30 and gets another first down for the Jets. Nice catch and run on the WR Screen. Favre deep to Keller! Knocked down in the endzone, but Cotchery grabs another one on a rifle from Favre. Jones picks up about five on first down and Favre is sacked on second down all the way back at the 24.

Screen to Leon Washington gets a good chunk of yards back and the Jets are going for it. 4th and 4....nothing. Hart drops an interception in the endzone but it doesn't matter.

10:38- I'm not quite sure why Tomlinson is still in the game, but they might want to sit him down up 24. He's still picking up first downs though. Bleed the clock Chargers....bleed the clock. Rivers hits Manumaleuna and I'm just proud that I spelled that right on the first try. Chargers punt.

"It's no fun out here tonight" Isn't that blasphemy? I thought that every reference to Favre must include saying that he plays the game like a kid with youthful abandon. (Via Anon)

Very true.

"We put the focus on Favre because people like me are in love with him."- Tony Kornheiser

Truer words have not been spoken. Jets ball again and the talk moves to the Jets spending money in the offseason. Favre gets nailed as he throws but floats one up. That's the third....thank god....

38-14 Chargers.

10:48- So who's with me in hoping for the fastest 4th quarter ever right about now? Jets ball on the SD 44 yard line and they have a 1st and 10. Screen to Coles gets five but Favre throws a ball straight up in the air to no one.

"They say he still plays the game like he's in sixth grade or eighth grade...."- Tony Kornheiser about Philip Rivers....just kidding....Brett Favre

Jaws says this part of the game is critical for the Jets development as a team because Favre is still in there. Pretty sure they're still trying to win the game, but I could be wrong. First down to Stuckey down at the Chargers 15 yard line. Coles again for a short gain and a flag on second down for defensive PI. Or not...uncatchable, which is surprisingly not even a real word.

A baby picking stocks would be about as successful as anybody else right now. And Mark Schlereth is enough of a celebrity to do ads ? (Via JG)

Seriously. 4th and one for the Jets....Favre sneaks and he's got it. Incomplete on first down as Cason breaks it up buuuuuuut....

TOUCHDOWN JETS! Favre to Stuckey as the QB had about 30 minutes to throw that and the Jets are going for two. No good....Favre sacked.

38-20 Chargers.

Tirico, show some emotion on your TD calls!! (Via Anon)

11:02- I think he's already checked out like everyone else in the country. Wait a sec....onside kick and the Jets have it! Uh oh. Don't look now people. Jets ball on their own 43. Favre to Baker into Chargers' territory and then Coles with a huge gainer! All the way to the ten!!! 1st and goal....

Favre sacked back at the 15. He follows that up with an incomplete pass to Smith and it's 3rd and goal. Favre to Cotchery, but that's short. A FG will cut it to 11 and that's what the Jets will do....

Good. 38-23 Chargers and it's getting a little tighter here folks.

Chargers ball from their own 20. Tomlinson gets three on a short run on first and then Rivers hits Colbert on a screen for about five. It'll be third and short. Caught on the slant by Jackson....first down.

Tomlinson for three and we're under six minutes. Another LT run and that makes it 3rd and short yet again.....Rivers to Jackson deep and he takes it all the way to the one. Gutsy play, but a great one, and if the Jets don't keep them out of the endzone...that's it....

That's it. Ladanian up the middle for six and a touchdown for the Chargers....

45-23 San Diego with 4 minutes left.

Well then. Cotchery gets the kickoff and takes it back to the Chargers' 19. Favre to Keller over the middle and Favre is still limping around out there....

Favre to Keller....Touchdown! Jets go for two and once again they fail but there's a flag on the play. Incomplete again, but a flag....again. Let's do this one more time!

Offside on the defense and good lord this is killing me. The ball was at the 1/4th yard line and the Jets try to throw it in. No good.

45-29 Chargers.

Some Sarah Palin talk and I'm officially spent for tonight. If the damn Chargers could just play defense and end this thing we could all go to bed happy. Feely tries the ever-so-clever of picking up his own onside kick and then smacking into the Chargers, but that's not going to fly. Chargers ball....thank god.

3 minutes left and the Jets are now calling timeouts. Ugh. That's their last one though and with 2 minutes and change the Chargers will try a long FG to ice it.

Good. 48-29 and that'll do it. 2 minutes left to go, but it's academic now. Leon Washington gets blasted on the return out of bounds but that's a flag....two minute warning.

Now the OL wants to push and shove when they are on the sideline. (Via Anon)

Dustin Keller is smashed over the middle and a dumbass ref throws a flag for some reason. The Jets are still pressing onward but it's with Kellen Clemens hitting receivers over the middle. Cromartie picks it off in the endzone. Good because I couldn't deal with another commercial break.

Final: Chargers 48 - Jets 29

Thanks for everyone that took the time to comment and hang out with me during this rather boring contest. I'll have quotes and video first thing tomorrow morning.

but again...this is Norv Turner. He'll figure out a way to blow the lead.
