ESPN Is Taking A Look Back At The "Fog Bowl" On Sunday Countdown

Friday, September 26, 2008

I wasn't planning on giving you a rundown of Sunday Countdown today, but ESPN actually has a pretty cool piece on the the "Fog Bowl" airing on the program, so I thought I'd highlight it. They also released it ahead of time, and knowing that a lot of you won't even turn on Countdown because of the talking heads involved, I've decided to post the video here for all of you to enjoy.

If you remember the December 31, 1989 game between the Eagles and Bears or not, it's still worth a viewing. We even get cameos from the play-by-play man, Verne Lundquist, and a players at the time, Mike Golic! Here's the video and the other Countdown segments are below it if you care.

Other Sunday Countdown Segments for 9/28:

- Live Interview with Jerry Jones
- A Look At Jay Cutler
- Mayne Event: 12th Man: Kenny travels to Seattle with the hopes of being the Seahawks' “12th Man”
- EA Sports Virtual Playbook: Titans’ Defensive Line
- “Soundtracks” – Patrick Willis

I was actually at the game with my dad growing up. It really was the strangest thing.

Now imagine if Kornheiser was there to ruin it.

Only one thing missing from this great piece, the Keith Jackson dropped pass in the endzone, which all of us Philly fans recall from that game.

"Tom Freakin' Skilling" - Nice cameo there!

As a young broadcaster, it's great to see the perspectives from Verne Lundquist and David Michaels of CBS on the 20th anniversary of the game. Lundquist had been known for countless legendary calls but none, for me, tops "and he is running in the fog down the far sideline".

I found it interesting that they opened with the radio commentary from Eagles play by play man Merrill Reese as opposed to whoever did the game at the time for Chi-town.

Still, great compilation, and kudos AA for letting us get a sneak peek!
