Colin Cowherd Wants To Give You Love Advice

Thursday, September 25, 2008

God, I really wanted to avoid this story, but there is seriously nothing else going on this afternoon. Tom Hoffarth of Farther off the Wall was listening to The Herd this morning when Cowherd went on a rant about how he wants to do a second show all about relationship talk. Seriously.

"You trust my opinions," he said. "So I can just do a relationship show for women the same way. There's gotta be a demo(graphic) for this."

His idea is to get callers from a "cool" city like New York or L.A., from women who have intelligence and really want smart answers. 'Cause that's what he'll give 'em.

He admits he's no doctor, but has an ex-wife, a daughter and a lot of female friends. Plus, as a single guy in his 40s, he also has no agenda -- very important for a male giving a female advice.

Meaning, he's content being a single male in his 40s?

Cowherd then took a call from a female listener who supported his idea. So did another male caller. Soon, Cowherd's female producer was pretending to be a caller to his "new" show, and asked a test question: "My husband doesn't make me feel special. I need more attention from him."

Cowherd's immediate advice: "Give him a gun and tell him to shoot himself."
Hoffarth said he was sort of joking at first, but as more callers chimed in, his ego grew to the point where it sounded like he was really considering it. He even tried to say that his current show is a "relationship based" program. I personally think it's a great idea. In fact, just pack up your Sports Radio show and please disappear to somewhere I could never hear about you ever again. Some start a petition to make this happen.

If by tongue in cheek you mean useless, smarmy, and a waste of airspace...why then yes, yes I totally realize it.

Duh!

If I even wanted relationship advice, a divorced, douche, radio announcer would probably be the last place I would look.

I'd sooner take sobriety advice from Amy Winehouse.
And scott f- unfortunately, Shrutebag believes pretty much everything he says. He continually compares himself to Limbaugh and Stern, and is as self-serving and narcissistic as they are.

And the blogosphere continues this trivial attack. Who cares? Do you and the big lead get together everytime Cowherd sneezes?

Thank God that Dennis Miller is on the same time in Denver. Cowherd is an idiot.

Zabka, this is the first Shrutebag related post here in a very long time. So no, AA doesn't write about him everytime he sneezes.

Why oh why are people defending Cowherd? He's the biggest douchebag in a network full of them, and that's saying something.

A relationship show? Really? Why would anyone in their right mind take advice from this clown?

Why must you make this the last post of the day? Every time I click your blog, I have to see that hideous mug.

Oh, and this bonus from the USC-Oregon State game. Towards the end of the 3rd Quarter after a Beavers' false start:

Jesse Palmer: "Look at Mark Sanchez. He's making the traveling sign."

Get off Cowherd's back....he's the best thing on sports radio since the Fabolous Sports Babe. Highly entertaining and funny to listen to.

Anon: you forgot the sarcasm sign, or the rolling eyes smilie. I'll insert them for you.

Damn. I don't know which part of that statement I disagree with more: 'C------ is the best thing on sports radio' or that 'The Fabulous Sports Babe was good?'

Semi-related note: Was the FSB/John Clayton rumor ever substantiated?

Nothing to do with Schrutebag, but an early nomination for this week's Pammy Awards. Aaron Taylor said this little nugget in the SMU-Tulane game on CBS College Sports. After SMU was called for defensive holding that gave Tulane a first and goal at the 2, Taylor said "Like I always say, if you ain't holding, you ain't trying." So unless you are committing penalties that give opponents good field position, you're not trying. Quite possibly the dumbest thing I've ever heard anyone say.

^Pretty much taken from the "if you're not cheating you're not trying" cliche. You've never heard that before?

I'll sign the petition if it gets him the hell off the air. I don't know where else I'll go for such insightful commentary as: "The strength of a football team starts at the position closest to the center." O'RLY?? I are dumb. Me wouldn't know that!!

Jesus Christ!! Someone grow a brain at the "Leader" and fire this asshole.

I'd rather have someone like Colin on ESPN Radio who ACTUALLY has opinions. Than Mike & Mike or Tirico & van Pelt who sit on the fence on every issue.

Colin is what sports talk radio is all about. Strong opinions. Not fence sitters.

If the Flatulent Sports Babe(as Don Geronimo used to call her) is your high standard for sports talk, well; I'm speechless..

I am glad we do not get his show in Pittsburgh on ESPN Radio. Thankfully we have local guys during his time.

Hopefully we'll get some local guys to do a show from 1-3pm...

Colin Cowherd makes me want to throw myself through a plate glass window. How often does he have to stroke his own ego? He very commonly will say "we called it here, and everyone was wrong." He makes vague statements so he can easily come down on whatever side he wants! Also, how many times a show does he have to make another voice for a woman, dumb person, hick, random person. Os there anyway we can send him to Afghanistan and play him 24-7 on loudspeaker? The Taliban would leave in a week's time rather than listen to him!
