Who's Ready For College Basketball To Start?

Tuesday, November 06, 2007

College Basketball got underway last night with Memphis trouncing Tennessee-Martin (although not covering the spread) on ESPNU and I couldn't be more excited. And what better way to celebrate than overwhelm you with a list of all the broadcasters assigned to the games on ESPN for the next week or so?

It's nice to see Football sideliner Quint Kessenich getting some booth time, and Dickie V not doing the first game of the year.

I see that the "ESPN Family of Networks" has already scheduled EIGHTEEN Duke games this year.

Oh yeah. They play 28 games this year, and 4 more will be on CBS (including their much-anticipated "showdown" with St. John's).

And the fact that they were the first team you thought to count up: does that help or hurt the notion that you should televise a team that everybody has an opinion about?

Duke = ratings, baby.

Although before I criticize I should point out that was a well-researched, smart, conversation-provoking comment, as opposed to what will be the yearly Deadspin race to see who can make the dumbest, least-informed, most moronic statement on the subject.

"Shoulda been you, Coach K"? No problem. Redick/DUI/homosexuality? Fine. "I'm cheering for Carolina based solely on my loosely-defined bandwagon hate of Duke?" Kill yourself.

(oh god I love hoops season)

Screw Duke....

The Johnnies = Ratings!

Or not....UNC/Davidson reminds me a little bit of UNC/Winthrop from last year which was by far the most entertaining November basketball game I've seen in a while.

UNC/Davidson should be a good one. Carolina SHOULD take it handily, but don't sleep on the Wildcats.

Dell Curry's kid will shoot Davidson out of that game. Or into it. No middle ground there.
