Chris Berman's "Swami" Character Is Turning 30 This Season
Thursday, September 04, 2008
Man, how's this for a downer on NFL Opening Day (or Opening Kickoff)? Chris Berman's "Swami" character, and its schticky goodness, turns thirty years-old this season and boy does that make me feel old. There's even more bad news.....The Swami is back once again with more predictions sure to lose you betters a ton of money!
I can't believe there's a person on this planet that finds the act funny, but for some reason I watch the "Swam" feature intently every time it comes on. The predictions almost always make no sense, it's dreadfully unfunny and the costumes are just ridiculous, but Berman has somehow managed to keep it going for 30-years as of this season. Oh how the time flies.
(FYI- I'm not going to be able to pull off a live-blog for tonight because something came up. If you come across any interesting quotes be sure to email them my way and I'll have videos and reviews up either tonight or early tomorrow.)

Well, I think I'm free to live blog tonight so.....
Nobody circles the wagons like this played-out gimmick.
Why does the 2-Minute Drill take 3:18??
Did he pick the niners-bills in the super bowl again for the 20th straight year?
Live blog is on right here!

the real question is if either of these two teams are going to rock our world>
I hope to sometime this season see a terrified look come on Berman's face as he grabs his left arm.
@ss:
It must be a real comfort to know that you and Chris Berman have the same Super Bowl teams (Seahawks & Colts).
Re: The Signature
"Chris Berrr?"
Wow, had no idea that character was that old. What on earth has kept them bringing it back all these years. I suppose you could ask the same thing about how Madden somehow stays in the spotlight....
I used to like Berman. Now he just makes me sad, like he doesn't realize it's not 1985 anymore.
i cant get enough of his 1956 pop culture references.
Seahawks and Colts is my prediction as well for the record. The Swami has long been my favorite part of Friday SportsCenters. 30 years, huh? I'm only 26, so I don't feel too outdated.
Chris Berman is the best.
Nike Air Force One
When's he going to lose the combover?
He and Kornheiser aren't fooling anyone.
