NFL Open Thread - Week 9 Early Games

Sunday, November 02, 2008

I've had this picture of Aaron Rodgers from his Cal days around for use in a post, either for an open thread or live-blog, for a while. Rodgers got a contract extension from the Pack this week, and heads into Tennessee to try to knock off the undefeated Titans in the prime choice of the early games. Fox holds the doubleheader this week.

Ive got a double play of awfulness
Siragusa on Packers / Titans, Nantz and Simms on Jets / Bills.

I'm spared the triple play of awful
because I've got Iggles/Seahacks at 4, no Joe Buck for me today.

My only pissed-off status has to do with being out of the zone to get the Broncos game at 4pm, but given that I'm in the middle of California, this is understandable.

At least the Niners are on a bye and my local station decided not to show the Raiders this week.

"How did he get so open? I lost track." - Simms on Buffalo's TE wide open in end zone, both Jets DB's went across field, clearly visible on replay.

Phil its your job to notice that.

"He doesnt want to be in 3rd and seven against the Titans defense." - Daryl Johnston on Packers Coach Mike McCarthy.

do you want to be in 3rd and 7 against any defense ?

"He did everything right on that reverse except make the tackle." - Johnston

"He's the most athletic 350 lb guy in the league." - Simms on one of the Jets DL, I have to assume that's a pretty small group.

"The rage in the NFL this year" - Nantz, on the Bills using the wildcat formation.

"The Jets offense will have to go thru warmups again." - Nantz, because of an INT that was returned for TD the Bills ran 24 consective plays on offense.

Watching Cardinals/Rams, and I have to say, Brian Billick is impressing me as an analyst. He clearly knows his stuff, and he consistently avoids saying things that don't make sense.

The Bears just might give the Lions their first win of the year. Down 10 in the third and former Dream Job winner Mike Hall is on the sidelines and just reported Kyle Orton will not return. Grossman overthrew receivers twice on the first drive and got booed off the field.

Noah, Billick was a welcome surprise when he called a game (likely a Niners game) earlier this year and he avoided saying anything too inane. He provided a good coach's view of it.

Would anyone else like to remark on the fact than Ryan Freakin' Fitzpatrick has thrown two TD passes? I bet Gus has had a cardiac by now.

Also, Chiefs fans: if Tyler Thigpen keeps this up, Herm Edwards might keep his job.

After the refs pick up a flag in Packers-Titans because there was not a hit to the head.

"It wasn't the quarterback, so it wasn't a hit to the head." - Johnston
"Like they don't get hit in the head." - Siragusa
"That was one of the real football players." - Johnston

ALERT: if you all were not aware, Rex Grossman is in the game and hit Rashied Davis for a TD.

"He ran enough laps to compltete the NYC marathon." - Nantz quoting Eric Mangini on Jets player Leon Washington's discipline when Washington first came to Jets.

Running laps as punishment ? Is this high school ?

BTW, Alabama new #1 according to promo on CBS.

Nantz also said the Gunslinger has played in 42 stadiums, won in 31 of them.

@jg: Alabama's #1 in the AP (and probably the BCS; we'll see during Fox's OT)

Typical Rexy: A TD, a pick off a batted ball and plenty of boos from the Soldier Field faithful.

Nov 2, 2008, 3:41:00 PM

Tim Ryan: "(DeVries) has made a 10-year career out of keeping his oil clean and his engine tuned up. His motor is non stop."

Nov 2, 2008, 3:48:00 PM

@rick james

thanx, Nantz didnt say what poll that was in

Hopefully Packers / Titans ends before 4:15, or I'll miss end of it.

Hey, S2N...

The reason the Raiders aren't on in your neighborhood is because they didn't sell out the Mauseloum.

Craven, if the maps are any judge, I wouldn't have gotten that game even if they had sold it out. My Fox affiliate picked Dallas-NY even before that.
