Both FOX And Dick Stockton Think That Dante Rosario Is A 5'8" Actress From New York

Monday, September 08, 2008

So Carolina pulled off one of the first great upsets of the NFL Season yesterday at the buzzer with a heck of a pass from Delhomme to TE Dante Rosario. FOX decided to go to the game with about a minute left and Dick Stockton and Brian Baldinger absolutely murdered the call of final few moments of the game.

Well, that's besides the point because the FOX production truck did something so hilarious following the game that I couldn't stop laughing. First here's the call of the final play (I have no idea what Baldinger is laughing at) but make sure you stick around for the UPS Players of the Game at the end of the vid....

Yes, you're seeing and hearing that right. The third player down is actress Rosario Dawson of "Clerks 2", "He Got Game" and "Sin City" fame! That's right, the tight end for your Carolina Panthers was actually an actress in the movie version of "Rent"!!! It's bad enough that Dick Stockton can't get things right on his own, now the FOX graphics department is throwing him curveballs like this? Too funny.

(Many thanks to reader Sean for the tip.)

I don't think this one really falls on Stockton. He got the guy's name right during his call of the catch. This one falls on the production crew. He was probably being rushed off the air so they could air the OT and read what was on the screen.

Can you really blame them though? I mean, have you seen that rack?

This is hilarious. This had to be someone in the production crew playing a joke.

No joke. Just plain stupidity. If it was a joke, whoever did it got fired. I know a football team has a large roster and it can be filled with some anonymous players, but there's no excuse for this. Look at the media guide to make sure you don't do something idiotic like this. This is the epitome of Awful Announcing and Pathetic Production.

I would assume it was a joke, and Stockton was so horrible on the play call that I blame him no matter what.
Even if he got the guy's name right on the TD catch, and even if the guy is a back-up TE, when he goes for 7 rec, 96 yards and the game winning catch, you should notice that saying the name "Dawson" as the best TE in the game isn't right.

FOX's production crew dropped the ball. I donm't think Stockton did poorly at all.

Fox Sports also dropped the ball in NYC by staying with Rams-Eagles to the end. Should have switched to Bucs-Saints when Philly went up 28-0.

If I'm correct, Bob Stenner and Sandy Grossman are the guys in the truck and they were one of the best production teams when they did the games with Madden and Summerall, I guess like the once great Stockton who I still like, the guys too have slipped in age, it's a good thing the player's last name was not either Kardashian or Britney, remember Mike Patrick?

"I donm't think Stockton did poorly at all."

Except for the seven second delay* on actually calling the touchdown.

*slight exaggeration

Coming from the man who called Mark Brunell "Scott" for several series in the 2005 Redskins-Bears opener, I'm not all that surprised.
